| 1 | Allergies | SEVERE Depression, Bronchitis, Constant Cold Symptoms | While taking this drug, I became more depressed than I've ever felt in my life. I have always been a happy person, but I was feeling so down when I was taking this. I was also constantly sick, developing colds, bronchitis, etc. I felt SO much better after I stopped taking it. It did not help AT ALL, in fact, it made my immune system weak and my moods horrible. It took doctors over three years to finally discover that Singulair was what was causing the anxiety. I also know four other people who have had the same problem. One of them hasn't left their house for three weeks because their anxiety is so bad. Within the first week she was having intense nightmares and then began experiencing mood changes, intrusive and suicidal thoughts and ocd, as well as severe abdominal pain over the next few months/yrs. Before taking this drug our daughter was an extremely happy, healthy child without a trace of any of these aforementioned conditions. We questioned our pediatrician multiple times regarding Singulair as the cause of the symptoms, which he dismissed. We kept her on the drug because of this and for the fact it helped with her allergies - for 2 yrs. This was back in 2005-2006 before the black box warning was issued. Our daughter is now 23 yrs old and has lingering side effects from this poison including intrusive thoughts, ocd, nightmares and abdominal issues. She has managed these through therapy, ssri's, watching her diet and continued support from her family. We still regret the day we ever | It seems some have taken this drug with little to no negative side effects. After countless hours of research we have found that perhaps one reason is due to a correlation between montelukast and a mutation in the MTHFR gene (which our daughter has) affecting folate and B vitamin assimilation. | F | 23 | 2 years 1X day | 3/5/2022 | 5 | Allergies & nasal polyps | Absolutely none. Allergic symptoms have decreased and my polyps have shrunk in combination with nasal spray therapy. | A lot of people commenting here are doing what patients on a new drug often do: attribute every negative feeling and symptom they're experiencing to a drug they recently started taking. Singulair did exactly what it's supposed to do for me, with no side effects, and I will gladly continue taking it. In the short time I was on it however, I did experience memory loss & lack of concentation. I would be getting ready to say something & it would just completely slip my mind. Or I would try to remember something I was supposed to do and I just couldn't. I felt like I was losing my mind. I'm severely allergic to dust mites, mold, cat and dog dander. I couldn't breathe at night. I was always wheezing and coughing. I could never go to my sisters house because she has 2 dogs and Every time I went my allergies would flare up and I would wheeze and sneeze . I take Zyrtec and singulair every night before bed and I just can't complain. I sleep well now! At first I did get strange dreams but never nightmares and the best thing is I can finally breathe!! I ended up having to go into surgery to get polyps removed from my sinus cavity's 3 weeks ago. My DR put me on Singular to help relieve the sneezing and to help relieve my allergies for the spring/summer {I didn't know that even in March there is pollen in the air coming up from either the south/west}. I am happy about getting singulair it means that I won't be suffering this summer; for the first time in about 2 years. Hopefully it will help reduce the build up in my sinus cavities also. I can get depressed/anxious, but I think it's just my life....it kind of sucks right now for reasons beyond Singulair. I sleep better when I take it though, and I take it at night.
