I was on Zetia for 7 months before I went to the doctor because the allergy season had passed but the sinus problem remained. I was diagnosed with a sinus infection and placed on antibiotics but continued taking Zetia. I took different antibiotics for 6 months before I went in for sinus surgery. After the surgery and while still taking Zetia I developed lung congestion, a cough, and asthma like symptoms. I was placed on numerous asthma medications, steroids and more antibiotics. During this time I also became very lethargic (I was very active before), I had very bad joint and muscle pain, and my fingers would bleed just below the skin. My doctor had no clue. While checking the side effects of the drugs I was taking I found that all of them were related to Zetia. After a year and a half I stopped taking Zetia (against my doctors orders). My fingers stopped bleeding, all of the muscle and most of the joint pain is go | This is a very bad drug. More people seemed to have been harmed than helped by the use of this drug. Doctors need to be more aware of the possible side effects and inform patients to be aware of the changes in their health they may experience so patients are not taking Zetia for extended periods, causing who knows what kind of health problems that may persist for who knows how long. With the above noted side effects, I going to stop taking Zeitia and see if this improves without increasing my overall cholesterol to much. I expect some increase but since I changed my diet I should be able to maintain under 200. After six months I was given Gimbofibrozil for another 4 months and things didn't change. Then I was placed on this new drug, Zetia, and sometime around the time I started taking Zetia, I complained to my Dr. about stomach pains. I stayed on Zetia for about 3 years, and was suddenly placed back on a, "low dose" statin drug which I absolutely refused to take. Since being on Zetia, I have experienced serious stomach pains that sometimes feel like a hernia as it's mainly in my groin area. I'm hardly able to run without experience discomfort, and severe pain for the next three to four days. I have also been very depressed, suffer from a lack of motivation, lots of resulting frustration, and weigh gain. | M | 47 | 3 years | 1/24/2008 | 1 | High cholesterol | I took my first dose of Zetia yesterday I immediately was struck with the worst headache I have ever had. I am now seven weeks off zetia. My MD was clueless about how to help. I declined the nuclear stress test he recommended. I took COQ-10 and a lot of fluids. An open minded nutritionist friend suggested a lot of fruit to replenish potassium levels. That helped most--I ate a banana per day and that seemed to help the most with getting energy levels back. Most symptoms are gone now. However, at 7 weeks, I still cannot exercise regularly or eat a big meal. If I exercise too much or eat a big meal, symptoms return briefly.
