Ambien causes sleep walking in many patients and Seroquel creates a binge eating type appetite, taken together you may not realize you are raiding the fridge or doing other strange things in the middle of the night. Not only did I raid the refrigerator, I threw small things away, found things moved around, things like that. As far as I know I didn't go outside. When I visited family for a holiday dinner I was terrified. How can I possibly stay awake for 4 or 5 hours during the dinner? My energy level went to zero and I felt exhausted after less than an hour out of bed. I went from a muscular (benching 275) 195 pounds to a flabby 245 the first year and let my gym membership lapse. After 5 years the side effects started getting much worse. No erections and crappy orgasms led to a complete loss of interest in sex. I just couldn't stop eating, and would wake up starving in the middle of the night and devoured an entire box of cereal. Of course I was too doped up to go to a restaurant or store, and the cereal for the next morning was the only carb fix around. If chips, cookies or Ice cream were around I cant't imagine how much I would have eaten. 2 weeks after quitting seroquel my glucose was 98, and along with the other symptoms, it appears that I was getting diabetic. Blurred vision imm | This drug made my bipolar mania much worse. By engaging in demanding activities in an attempt to feel better and control weight, I was driven into mania but the Seroquel hid the mania. I ended up being hospitalized with a mixed episode after 4 months of mania in 2004. The Seroquel dosage was increased , and I gained 10 pounds in 2 weeks in the hospital. 2 months later, unable to lose the 10 pounds, I became extremely depressed and spent a month planning suicide. The same pattern repeated in 2005 (the cognitive decline side effects of Seroquel prevented me from seeing what happened in 2004) and culminated in a mixed episode where I had a tremendous urge to kill people. Another increase in Seroquel really zonked me out for a few months. The side effects began to worsen rapidly in late 2006 and by early 2007 a horrible event made the decision clear - one of three changes was to discontinue Seroquel immediately - I forget the other 2. I experience hallucinations and lathargy. I feel punch drunk etc... I take 1000mg (Heavy Duty Dose) at bedtime or thereabouts. I do this to avoid the sleepiness and knee tremors if taken during my daytime hours. For the most part I wake up sleepy sometimes I feel blunted in my awareness and emotions. Other than that this med has been much better than Zyprexa, Risperdol and definatley better than Navaine (Spelling?). I have also experienced weight gain on Seroquel. | I have at times due to the responsibilities of my life had to take lesser doses to be able to wake up earlier. I do not advocate this as my blood level has slipped too low on different ocassions and I started to experience full blown symptoms of Schizo. I take Nuerontin and Attivan as well. Weight gain. When I was first started on seroquel in 2007 at 600mg 1x/day, I was Extremely manic which included having delusions and hallucinations. It took some time for it to kick in. I remember still having delusions when first starting the medication. For some reason though I kept taking it even though I've always hated taking psych meds and have stopped and started them soo many times. In about a month is when I started to become "normal" again. After the delusions and mania stopped I felt very lethargic and depressed since I was on such a high dose. Long story short, over the past 5-6 years, my dose has been decreased to 50mg, which is what I am taking now. This med has been a lifesaver for me and although it sucked putting weight on, it's better then being mentally sick. Also take lamictal 200mg/day, wellbutrin 75mg 2x/day, vistaril 25mg prn anxiety. I feel very lucky to have found a combination of meds that keep me even-keeled. Antipsychotics are notorious for for lowering or downright eliminating libido and causing other sexual dysfunctions. *reason 400mg is taken all at once just before bed | I submitted a review at the end of December 2013 and thought it would be helpful to be followup. Seroquel is an effective anti-manic med. but it’s also FDA approved for bipolar depression. I occasionally experience psychoses when severely stressed and sleep-deprived and Seroquel helps with those symptoms also. These brief psychotic responses are extremely upsetting so my doctor also prescribed PRN 25mg pills (up to 100 mg) to be taken when my thoughts become jumbled, racing or irrational (delusional) including suicide ideation. The 25 mg pills are the lowest dosage available and tiny enough for sublingual dosing when I deteriorate rapidly. Taking 25 mg starts to slow my thoughts and “dial-down” intense emotions which produces a deep calming affect. (I would not consider such a change to be “emotional blunting” (negative) under the circumstances. I will take a second, third and final dose until noticeable improvement. Seroquel is deeply sedating so driving can become dangerous. Seroquel is a powerful drug with considerable side effects and patients sometimes develop other health problems because of taking this drug. My goal (with my doctor’s consent) is to decrease my dosage to the lowest amount possible. It has been the one medication that has been effective for the longest time (have been on more meds over the past 16 years than I can remember - most work for a short while then become ineffective). However, it is extremely powerful and I only take it as a last resort before lithium. In March '09, I increased it 25mg at a time 'til I got to 175mg! I am down to 150, but recognize that I am still in a danger zone so haven't reduced it any further yet. I can't take more than 50mg at a time because I get leg tremors when in bed. I've been stretching out taking the doses starting in the early evening. I am wondering if I took them throughout the day (morning noon and night), if would help curb the eating binges I seem to go through at night. I am not sure if my inability to focus is because of the Seroquel or because of the mania of the upswing. I suspect the latter. | At night, I take Seroquel, 300mg gabapentin (Neuronton, for mood stabilizer) and for depression, 75mg Effexor XR (because of its cost, sometimes venaflexine, the generic, a pill that has to be split and taken a.m. and p.m. because of the "half life"). In the morning, I take 300mg lamotrogine (FINALLY the generic of Lamictal is available, MUCH less expensive) for mood stabilization. I know how bad my bi-polar upswing can get (I was hospitalized, involuntarily, for more than 2 wks in 3/03), so I realize that I MUST take the Seroquel when weathering one of these episodes. IS there another drug to replace it that doesn't involve weight gain? | F | 56 | 6 years | 4/20/2009 | 4 | Bipolar | Make me a little drowsy when I first take it | Iits fine for me! | M | 56 | 6 years 100 | 1/6/2016 | 4 | insomnia | drowsiness | when i first started taking seroquel, i would fall asleep in five minutes and if i didnt go to sleep right away, then i would get anxious because my mind didnt want to sleep, but my body did. so i make sure i go to bed now when it starts to kick in. i am also on a lower dose now and so it helps me fall asleep in a more natural way than before. the only thing is that if i stop taking the seroquel, i cant sleep at all.. my insomnia is probably worse than before in that respect. however, if you are not taking this drug for insomnia, i dont think you will have this kind of dependence/side effect. other than this, i havent experienced any other side effects... no weight gain or anything else. this drug has been very helpful for me... i have tried other medicines for insomnia and nothing else has worked. | F | 29 | 6 years 200-300 mg 1X day | 12/10/2011 |
