I do not recommend going Cold Turkey yet it worked for me. Some people need this horrible drug and I didn't. I'm doing fine I drank lots of water during detox. I will never take a prescribed pill again until I do the research. Please research this pill before taking it. It's the Devil in a bottle,wicked drug,shame on Dr.s who use this as a catch all drug and anyone reading this be careful as it took me 4 years to get to the point of no more, goodbye and good riddance to Satin in a pill. For those of you fighting this drug good luck and you'll get better in time, I doubted myself some days and craved sleep for weeks yet I got through it time,patience and eating right it took months for my taste of foods to return,my destroyed relationships will never return and I blame AZ,the Dr.s and myself. True Story and read as much support information you can find lots of info on the web about this crazy,crappie god forsaken drug. Be careful as the side effects are lurking and will appear one day. Weight gain and diabetes are real as well as kidney and liver damage be sure to have those checked and vision. Currently the State of Texas is suing AZ. Off label prescription and the Black Box Warning is very real. I hope those who are taking this nasty wicked pill start the research if you have loved one on this drug research it for side effects | M | 59 | 4 years 300mg 3X day | 2/2/2015 | 1 | Bipolar disorder/Scizophrenia | Lethargy, loss of interest, over sleeping, memory problems, permanent stutter, permanent shaking, permanent muscle spasms/rigidity, permanent twitching, equilibrium issues, eye titching, occasional black-outs( permanent), constant daily itching. | Started taking it around 12y/o and got off it when I was 16 1/2 y/o. It caused problems at school and in my social/home life(and still does) due to the side effects. My muscle spasms/rigidity are often so bad my legs lock up if I stand/sit for too long and I can't move them AT ALL(they're literally as hard as rocks). Oftentimes my stutter is so bad I have to stop talking because I get so frustrated or people start laughing at me. The twitching is often so bad it wakes me up when I'm sleeping and I tend to unintentionally throw things. The doctors think my "black-outs" are a rare form of epilepsy that was brought on by neurological damage due to being on such a high dose of seroquel for so long. I can't keep a steady job due to the permanent side effects and have trouble in social situations. My advice? If you're taking it, get off it as soon as possible. And if you're not on it? Don't start. Many of the issues I have now due to seroquel are rare or uncommon, but i know if I had another chance I wouldn't even risk it. | M | 19 | 4 years 450 mg | 9/7/2017 | 1 | Bipolar Disorder (misdiagnosed) | Huge weight gain, lethargy, dry mouth/trouble swallowing, confused and dizzy head, fatigue. | I would advise people to think twice and then think twice again before taking this drug. My experience on this was awful. The only positive thing I can find to say about it is that it was very good for my insomnia. This stuff literally knocked me out cold within 30 minutes of taking it. In fact, I used to sleep 12 hours or more every night and could barely function during the day as I was so groggy and spaced out. My weight ballooned and I was permanently exhausted. I can’t stress the weight gain enough. Before taking this drug I was a slim guy in great shape for his age. By the time I finished I looked like I was wearing a fat suit and was unrecognisable! It didn’t even work as an antipsychotic for me - I literally went nuts on this stuff and had one psychotic episode/delusion after another and nearly lost everything. I’ve been off it for around 3 years and am still suffering. I’ve lost all the weight, but I don’t feel well at all. If you suspect you have a mental health problem, seek out a therapist and not a doctor who hands out pills. That’s what I did after wasting 10 years of my life with mental health quacks and the difference was amazing. Grogginess for about 30 minutes in the morning which goes away. | As bad as the side effects sound, bipolar I is scary and debilitating, and this drug has turned my life around. I take a fairly low dose, 100 mg, unless becoming manic, when I increase it to 200 for a few days. With consistent exercise and careful eating I can keep my weight under control, and blood sugar is good. I refrain from eating at night after I take the drug - just go straight to bed. Also I take lamictal and lexapro. Have been stable five years. Seroquel helps with anxiety, too. I had tried "baby" sleep aids like RESTORIL and AMBIEN, but they were just pi$$-in-the-ocean: Basically I am like an elephant in the wild who needs to be brought down with a dart of elephant tranquilizer! So I needed a more "heavy duty" sleep aid like SEROQUEL. A relative of mine takes about 700mg daily for schizo-affective disorder... There is no way in hell I could take a dosage like that, because 100mg alone is enough to knock me out cold for hours, swell up my nasal passages completely and dry up my mouth. SEROQUEL does indeed allow me to sleep like a baby for about 8--12 hours, and get plenty of refreshing REM sleep, too. In fact, it is the first good sleep I have had in all my adult years. I am just naturally "wired" by nature, and SEROQUEL eases that. Interestingly, once you awaken, you are not groggy at all... 10 minutes, say, for the fog to lift... and you're good. I have in fact, gained much weight since I've been on psych meds (ten years now) and have developed Type 2 Diabetes as well... but I attribute these developments more to DEPAKOTE... which I'll "diss" on a different page... As a diabetic, I probably should not be taking a drug which metabolizes in the liver (as SEROQUEL does)...
