| 1 | Osteoporosis | Debilitating and non-stop muscle pain (no other flu-like symptoms) in spine, hips, neck, etc. It started the day after my first ever infusion of Reclast (infusion is for one year; I will not be getting a second one). Pain took about TWO months to lessen at times but did not dissipate for FOUR months. | Endocrinologist who prescribed insisted pain could not be from Reclast; prescribed ibuprofen and told me to see my primary and then an orthopedist! A specialist no less, and yet he insists Reclast cannot cause chronic muscle pain. I went on line today and read medical studies. Almost impossible to get Dr’s to acknowledge or treat the damage! | This drug should only be given to people with advanced osteoporosis including multiple fractures. It should almost never be given as a first treatment for OP unless patient has had multiple fractures. This drug has a 10 year 1/2 life & there's no antidote & few treatments for those with severe adverse reactions. The drug mfg. has insulated themselves against legal action, so patients have no recourse or help with long term disabilities caused by this drug. I recommend exhausting all other options before agreeing to proceed with Reclast. It caused ongoing bone pains & deteriorated my teeth I was unaware it affected teeth. My oncologist will disagree with my decision but I'll let him talk. Can’t eat normal, food does not taste good and if I eat anything heavy I belch and suffer more. I am so tired. I am exhausted. This is awful. I can’t get answers. How long will I be like this? It’s only a link over a month. I don’t want to be like this forever. RECLAST (ZOLEDRONIC ACID): This medication is used to treat a certain type of bone disease (Paget's disease) that causes abnormal and weak bones. Zoledronic acid is also used to treat bone loss (osteoporosis) in men and in women after menopause. It may also be used to treat or prevent osteoporosis in people who are taking corticosteroid medications (such as prednisone) for long periods. It works by slowing the breakdown of bone and keeping bones strong. It also helps to reduce the risk of broken bones (fractures). This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as bisphosphonates. Another zoledronic acid product is used to treat bone problems that may occur with cancer. The 2 products should not be used together. (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)
