| 1 | Osteoporosis | First dose I had minimal muscle soreness and never connected it with Reclast infusion.. Second infusion caused massive, full body muscle soreness and inflammation. I was on Prednisone for 12 months. I weaned off and now just put up with the pain. It was a 10 level and now is a 3 - 4 level. This is after 18 months since the second infusion. Initially, in areas I had previous injury I had major swelling. I could not bend my knee but there is no joint pain. As initial pain began to dissipate, I experienced terrible ringing in my ears for about 3 weeks and now almost total loss of hearing in one ear. Pandemic has put off my appt with ENT for a few more months. I now manage pain with Voltaren and Blue Emu. Still cannot lie down in bed and sleep in recliner. I've also been taking Acetaminophen,and Naprosen once daily. Water seems to have a SIGNIFICANT impact.I also highly recommend Deep Tissue massage and soaking in a hot tub or Whirlpool if available. I'm told the half life of Reclast is 90-120 days so I'm hopeful it will subside soon.Water Water Water! I think that should have been stressed as an instruction! | Although the painful side effects that I have are far worse than the pain I was experiencing before. As a Healthcare professional (x-ray) I know that Paget's is a HORRIBLE disease. I was devastated before I found out Reclast could "cure" me. I feel it's worth the discomfort over untreated Paget's. I took off a week after the treatment not knowing what the side effects would be. I have been working two jobs through it all. Being on my feet has been excruciating some days and others it almost feels normal. Had for 4 days, couldn’t eat (nausea) & did NOT sleep due to the headache. Sheer misery during those sick days | Last year was advised Reclast “could cause ugly side effects.” This year’s follow-up DEXA scan was mixed: femoral head clearly improved, wrist was worse. Decision to repeat infusion this year made on basis of the significant improvement seen on this year’s DEXA. Last year the side effects struck on the way home. Headache was actually worse than my migraines! I REALLY DREAD my next round, scheduled for tomorrow. Dr. assures side effects shouldn’t be quite as bad this time. Also suggested (1) drink 8 oz non-caffeinated drinks, especially Gatorade Zero, every WAKING HOUR the full day BEFORE/the day OF/the day AFTER the infusion; (2) Continue fluids DURING the infusion; (3) 1 hour prior to infusion take: 2 extra strength Rapid Release Tylenol OR 2 Ibuprofen plus 25-50 mg of Benadryl; (4) Continue Rapid Release Tylenol OR Ibuprofen every 6 hours as needed until symptoms dissipate; (5) Try a 60 minute infusion instead of a 30 minute infusion.
