No problems, other than weight gain (50lbs!). I took Pristiq for exactly 30 days. On the 3oth day I had a meltdown at work: hallucinations, panic attack, uncontrollable crying, suicidal thoughts, soaring blood pressure...I could go on. Suffice it to say I ended up in the ER for 30 hours while I stabalized. My kidneys shut down, I was extremely consitpated, and by blood pressure got up to 204/110. I had 2 IVs, Xanex, and water. It took a week for me to feel 'normal' again (today). I'm back on Lexapro and am on a mission to let everyone know how very dangerous this drug is. Some people, of course, have no problems, and I'll admit, the first two weeks I felt euphoric. But when the crap hit the fan, it hit hard! Be careful. Read every post you can before you take this. And beware the withdrawal symptoms! Still have somewhat high blood pressure (never had problems with my blood pressure before). I hope these symptoms will go away. And now unfortunately my insomnia is back. Taking estrogen has not helped , I think because it's such a low dose . Pristiq is a good medication for depression that makes you feel slow, heavy and tired . It hasn't made me anxious. | I have read some comments about withdrawals coming off this and other antidepressants. Your doctor can prescribe some medication to take for a short period of time to help with those symptoms. It really helped me getting off some migraine medication which had terrible withdrawals. One is Clonidine and the other is Hydroxyzine. I have had strange violent thoughts when waking, that I quickly forget, that make me wonder what's going on in my head while I'm sleeping. | My doctor never warned me about the dependence issues associated with this drug and I'm not happy. I'm scared to come off it and not sure about how to do it. I keep booking appointments at the doctor, but missing them because my memory is so screwed. I can't cook food for my family properly any longer as I cannot properly multi-task. I even forget to pick up the kids from school! I don't know what to do with myself unless I drink strong coffee or something, anything to pull me out of this haze. This is a very dangerous substance, and I would advise extreme caution for any new users. The only other negative side effect is difficulty reaching orgasm, in fact it's nearly impossible; so still trying to figure out what to do about that. I read "alternative sex practices" may be a solution on a couple different websites, whatever that means. | I honestly have to say this drug saved my life. I fought depression for years and started trying medications three years ago, they either did nothing or made everything worse. After my brother took his own life last year, I was at the end of the rope. I tried a couple more medications with no success and then I started the lower dose of pristiq about eight months after his suicide and noticed I felt better. After going up to 50mg, in a week the endless loop of negative thoughts vanished. My wife said to me, βIt's good to finally have you back, I was starting to think you may be lost forever if something didn't change.β I really had no idea how deeply I had fallen until the fog lifted and I could look back at the hole I'd been in for years. The last side effect I listed is disappointing, but worth it considering I'd had pretty much zero interest in sex (or anything else for that matter) for over a year. Having taken Pristiq last year for several months and then going off due to co pay costs being so high at the time, I switched to Effexor (wasn't as helpful as Pristiq was for me) so recently, the cost of Prestiq went way down and I knew I wanted to switch back to it - I was positive if this was a side effect of Pristiq last year when I took the medication, but I feel very confidant saying I believe it was because when I stopped taking it I noticed it stopped, but when I started taking Prestiq again it came back ... I don't quite understand how or why, but I believe that not only does it help me, doesn't make me gain weight and has minimal to no negative side effects, the most interesting things I observed while taking Pristiq is that I have much longer and more intense oragasms with my husband. I feel funny sharing this, but it's 100% true! I've always had a good and healthy sex life with my husband, except I have taken medications in the past that I thought slowed my libido down a little so I stopped them - but not only does Prestiq not interfere with my sex drive, I really believe for some reason, some way, some how it absolutely has improved sexual satisfication and oragams. I truly wonder if this has effected of women in a similar way, because of so this could be the start to like a mild version of Viagra, but for women!
