Doctor suggested 2 months, and then 6 months. First couple of weeks I had dizziness, blurred vision, and headaches. Around the 5/6 week, my stomach started gurgling and not just after meals. It was all day. Starting waking up several times at night. Then I couldn't sleep at all, 3 nights straight. Then the anxiety started. And with anxiety, tingling in my arms. Glad I stumbled on this site. It did help my pain after about 3/4 weeks. But I don't think this medication is meant to be taken long term. They told me my labs were fine and i was dehydrated. I later went back to the GI doctor to express I believe it is the medication. The doctor explained the brain and gut connection and it is anxiety driven. I have been off the medications for 2 weeks against the doctors advice. I no longer have stomach cramps, however still suffering from anxiety and racing thoughts. These things I have never had before in my life. All medications have a risk/reward but this medication causes extreme anxiety issues. I was totally healthy except for my gastritis. My doctor described these pills to me 5 weeks ago. It was ok in the beginning and helped with my gastritis. But the price that i paid for this is not worth it. After 4 days of taking this drug, i got very tired. The next day, i also got dizzy. I thought it would be the stress at work. After 2 more days i hot bad headaches. I went to my doctor, who told me it could never be the side effects of Protonix, I should drink more. After a week I saw that doctor again, because I had gotten anxiety and nerve pain also. He again told me it would not be the Potronix and I should take a blood test. Came back I am healthy. But the symptoms were still the same. I thought I would die, could not go to work anymore. I did an MRI and my organ values were checked, all with good results again. I didn't know what to do next, I felt worse and worse. then i came across recessions on the internet and thought to myself, it all started shortly after taking it, i have to try to find out whether it is not due to the tablets. i stopped taking the pills without my doctor. after 1 week the symptoms got a little better, but now after 2 weeks it is still bad. Today I never went to the doctor who told me again that Potronix had no side effects. Even more burning in stomach, feeling stomach is swollen. Problems eating, gas, going to bathroom constantly. I was genuinely worried I had stomach cancer. Strangely enough my mother in law also takes it because she takes strong painkillers for hip replacement and joint pain and our stomach issues while taking protonix are identical. It works for some, but for others the side effects are much worse. However, there were times when I had acid come up while on it. So not sure how it was helping. Soon after a couple of weeks of being on it, I was greeted in the morning with indescribable right shoulder blade pain that I never felt before in my life. After about a month it subsided some but it's still there everytime I get up and relax the shoulder it feels excruciating. Besides all of the above symptoms I find the most disturbing is oral thrush, not sure if it is related or not but I find it odd that I have great oral hygiene and I get this. Although, I'm not the healthiest of a person and feel my immune system is to blame and it could be autoimmune but it could be progressing or aggravating it. Im currently in the process of tapering myself off, doing every other day for a 2 weeks and then every other 2 to 3 days for a couple of weeks and then I'm done with these pills. Doctors these days just want to throw mental disorders around and call it anxiety and its in your head and I'm a very level headed person and I will NOT accept that a doctor can judge me like that without "knowing" me. Unacceptable. I will venture into the natural homeopthic route and check out some oil tictures to get my health back. Western medicine is no more for me. I was taking it for LPR and had no reflux or stomach problems prior to. Additionally, I had dizziness and fatigue. I've lost a lot of weight in a short period which I believe contributes to the exhaustion. | I've read that the rebound phase can be anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months. I believe that the side effects caused an imbalance of elements and nutrients. I've been trying to add supplements but can see this will be a longer road to recovery. Mostly, I think my stomach cells have to repopulate and the levels of Gastrin would have to level off back to normal before there will be any relief. I'm guessing that there are other cells in the body that need repair as well. I will never take a PPI again. There are much easier lifestyle choices that would have helped greatly with any medication at all. DONT TAKE THIS OR PPIs, unless there is no other choice.
