Palmar flushing (red palms similar to those with Lupus). | Prescribed due to GI issues and being prescribed high doses of steroids. This was prescribed as a prophylactic to avoid GI issues due to steroids. Prescribed 3 times across 6 months. Took for several weeks first time and 1-2 weeks for subsequent. Got severe stomach pain across top of stomach. Noticed chest Rash at this time which increased as steroids tapered. Stopped taking, and stomach pain stopped next day. Rash took a long time to clear. 3 months later, GI flareup. Mentioned symptoms but prescribed again. More severe rash--firy on chest/lacy pattern on shins and palmar flushing. Stopped taking. Symptoms went away. Third Immuno/GI flareup: Told hospital Dr. of prior issues. Prescribed again. Took for one week. Felt terrible, with indigestion, fatigue, hair seems to be thinning, adn palmar flushing returned. Sent new GI doc info on side effects and picture of rash; and he instantly wrote back to stop taking it. 24 hours later, feel great. Complete turnaround from fatigue, stomach issues, etc. Have tried to advocate not taking it at each GI episode but it is sometimes very hard to be heard/concerns dismissed. They put me on protonix and Pepcid. The first two days I took it, I got sick and throwing up. I didn't think anything of it so I kept taking it. A week later I was referred to a GI doctor. I did a barium swallow x ray and nothing was wrong with my stomach or esophagus and she prescribed me sucralfate. So I kept taking the protonix also, after a went to the GI doctor, I noticed I was very depressed. I was having manor anxiety. My hands and feet kept tingling. I was having muscle spasms. I was having accelerated heart rate and chest pain. I honestly felt like I was having a heart attack most of the time. I wasn't acting myself at all. My mom asked me if it was my medicine making me that way, so I started googling and found these reviews and I was doing every side effect people were talking about. I've had anxiety before, but it was nothing like this. I just never assumed it was protonix causing all of this. I always kept feeling like I was going to die, that stayed in my head constantly. I always felt like something was wrong with me. Needless to say, after I googled and found these reviews, I stopped taking it the next day. I will never take this medicine again. It truly makes you have major side effects. I know everyone is different, but I do not recommend this.
