Really weak to the point I couldn’t get out of bed. | I had been on it about 5 days when I put it all together. Blood pressure would drop to like 96/60 then jump to 156/112. My normal is 110/70. Heart rate stayed elevated with an in increase of about 20-25 bpm. Doc said that it wasn’t the medication and to put the blood pressure monitor up and quit checking it. 2 hr sleep at night. First day, I felt a bit better - actually had an appetite for the first time in a while. It's been downhill since. I can't sleep, and I can't stay asleep. My body just HURTS all over, and I can't stop shaking - I feel like I'm vibrating. Then today, I forgot where I parked my car twenty minutes after I parked. And I can't remember the password to my computer that I have to enter 4 times an hour. This is miserable. I can't do my job right now. I've been in a fog since Friday, and I haven't passed a bowel movement to boot. So on top of the discomfort from this medication, I'm horribly bloated and can't eat. My body won't stop twitching. I found that taking Melatonin before bed 5mg helped my GERD. But once I took this med it made it worse it is not worth the side effects. The pain goes from my lower arm up through the muscle and into my upper back. I never had this kind of muscle pain in my entire life, except when I fell and broke my arm with I was very young. I now live with pain almost everyday, and I can no longer exercise because my heart starts racing. Doctors have doubted the causal effect of protonix, but an ER dr confirmed that this drug has a lot of side effects. DO NOT TAKE IT - IT IS LIKE INGESTING POISON!!! I am just miserable from suffering with pain that I did not have. When my heart starts racing, I become stricken with anxiety, believing I am about to have a heart attack! The anxiety worsens the palpitations, and now I am taking an anti-anxiety medication!! I am absolutely disgusted. | Please take this medication off the market! It is just AWFUL! Within a few days of starting Protonix, she began to experience severe anxiety (constant, never ending panic attack), depression, nightmares, severe exhaustion, loss of appetite, headaches, itchy skin and dermatographia. Her doctors didn’t suspect that Protonix was the cause because these don'tt appear on the list of potential side effects. Then I found hundreds of patient postings on this website and on similar websites recounting the same side effects, and I came across a report published recently by Italian researchers that linked PPIs to severe anxiety (author is Giovanni Polimeni, you can google name and “PPIs” to find it).I contacted Dr. Polimeni, who told me that others are researching the link and in some countries (including Italy), the list of possible side effects for PPIs has recently been amended to include neuropsych side effects. If you experience these side effects, it is NOT in your head. Consult your doctor immediately and report the side effects to the FDA. It’s very easy to do online, you fill out a MedWatch online voluntary reporting form, www.fda.gov/medwatch/report.htm Few if any people report the side effects to the FDA, so they remain considered “rare” or nonexistent.
