| 5 | Genital herpes | Contracted the herpes virus from an idiot ex who never told me he had it. Doctor prescribed me valtrex, I didn't have any bad side effects and it cleared up my breakout instantly. Haven't had a break out since and it's been 3 months on the medication. I do take one once a day. | In the beginning I was very depressed, didn't want to get out of bed. But I don't believe it was from side effects of the drug more so just coming to terms w me having the virus from someone I loved and trusted. Needless to say, we broke up. And I've been in a relationship for 7 months, my partner has not contracted the virus and was so supportive when I told her about me having the virus. So for anyone feeling like their love/sex life is over it's not! No outbreaks until I had my first child at 36, then mild itching over the next 2 years. It was manageable but annoying. My doctor put me on suppressive therapy at 500 mg daily. After 3 days I had the worst outbreak ever. Lesions on genital and anal area, red bumps on my buttocks, arms and underarms. I stopped taking it a week later. Two weeks into the outbreak and the itching was unbearable. I started taking the Valtrex again but upped my dose to 1000 mg a day. After 2 days, the sores are starting to slowly heal but the itching and weeping is still there. I wish I never started taking Valtrex because from what I've read, I will likely have full blown outbreaks if I stop. After second dose last night the soft tissue inside my mouth had exactly the same symptoms and the symptoms in my genitals worsened significantly. Hershey's milk chocolate actually BURNED my mouth like it was a jalapeņo.... I Havent eaten a single thing since --it's the next day, now. I will NOT be continuing this medication! | I had zero herpes symptoms/diagnosis and went to doc yesterday for BV test which was positive. At that time the doc noticed a lesion and took a sample with a swab and it Hurt like hell. That was the only time I was aware it was there and the pain stopped immediately. I didn't start my Rx until 4 hours after the swab and had zero symptoms until two hours AFTER taking it.. During my research many people have denied Valtrex has this effect, I assure you, IT DOES! The blood work and swab results haven't come back yet but I'm giving the doc the benefit of the doubt. I have no idea which type I have (HSV1 or 2) or how long I've had it since I had lesions that didn't itch or hurt until she sampled it. My only symptoms were bacterial infection or yeast infection related. My husband has HSV1 so I suspect I got it from him. We have been together for 15 years. It is a very safe and effective drug. Understand that replies to forums such as this are often only submitted by those who are dissatisfied. Most of the negative reactions I've read are those of the virus, not necessarily the drug. Find out for yourself! I have many patients who never knew suppression therapy existed for "cold sores," HSVI. It can be life changing! Though you can still infect others on suppression therapy, with Valtrex I have no outbreaks and my partner remains HSV free!
