My lip was so swollen and painful, I didn't know what it was as this was on the top of my bottom lip. I received antibiotics from the doctor as it did look infected. Then as soon as it started to disappear a second one started directly next to the first. So basically for the last 5 weeks I have been miserable, embarrassed, and so paranoid about giving something to my children. I read only negative reviews on here after taking this first dose and was nervous, but like anything, most people only review things that they have a negative experience with. I wanted to let people know I was in the middle of a cold sore and this medication took this blister on the top of my lip from the size of a shirt button that I have had for days and kept getting bigger and more swollen to half the size in only 24 hours. Still a bit swollen but I am sure it'll clear up quicker than the first one. 5 weeks, ugh. I can't wait for this to o be over. I feel so bad for looking down on people with issues like this. I have stopped taking the medication but the unbearable pain have persisted for 2 weeks now. Urine dipstic tests show no abnormal kidney or liver function but I await blood test result. In the mean time I am spending my nights writing in agony. | Used to have one or to outbreaks a year for which just 3 days of treatment with acyclovir would help. My doctor subscribed valtrex saying it was a newer better drug. It is not. It surprised my symptoms but they did not go away and now my outbreaks are resistant to acyclovir as well! The bioavailability of these drugs are less than 10 % and the liver or kidneys have to try and deal with the insoluble remaining 90%. I think it causes hypotoxicity of these organs. Right now I am terrified that it has messed my intestines up for good. I don’t think I will be able to cope with this level of pain for much longer. I take 500mg daily as suppressive therapy to prevent outbreaks of cold sores from oral HSV1. I really tired but too anxious to sleep. Besides being tired, I feel super sad and cry a lot. Also loopy. PSA: do not drink while on this medication. I had a half of glass of wine on my first night and couldn’t make sense of what I was saying. I was beyond loopy. I don’t know if it’s working for my shingles as I have a mild case and I’m not in pain really (thank Goodnless!) I will take one more day, then consult my doctor. Stay healthy everyone! | I also had bloating, gas and tummy aches. I’ve never had a reaction to a medication like this one. I was also prescribed when about to give birth to avoid outbreaks when giving birth vaginally. I gave birth vaginally and everything was safe and did not give to my baby thank GOD, I also make sure to disinfect everything after using restroom and wash my hands if have an outbreak, I am extremely OCD when it comes to that, I cover area with bandaid to not have it exposed. Side effects of valacyclovir (valtrex) is light headedness and dizziness, a lot of fatigue, mental fog, confusion, severe anxiety like feeling of panic attack , visual disturbance with light sensitivity | I stopped taking completely at beginning of 2020 because the dizziness and panic attack like symptoms were happening more frequently and was horrible, I haven't had outbreaks, I been watching what I eat, I exercise, I try to not drink or smoke anymore to keep my immune system strong, I am now trying to eat mostly plant based and drink green smoothies or veggie and fruit smoothies also to keep my immune system strong , I still sometimes feels some anxiety and I think it may be from taking it on and off for so many years | F | 31 | 6 years 500MG 2X day | 1/21/2020 | 4 | Herpes | I was given 1000 mg 2x daily initially and the outbreak would go away but kept recurring every 3 weeks so the doctor put me on suppression therapy of 500 mg 1X daily for a year. I am half way through the year and I have not had any outbreaks at all. I do however have severe muscle pain in my neck and shoulder that is getting worse and the doctors and a chiropractor that I have been seeing have no explanation for it. It is so bad that the muscles are now inflamed where they attach to the bone. I’ve tried everything they have suggested and nothing has worked. Valtrex prescription corresponds with the start of this pain and nothing else has changed. Not sure if it’s the valtrex because I haven’t heard of this side effect from anyone else.
