I then took Evista for about 1 1/2 years when my doctor put me on Femara because it is more effective. I was fine in the beginning. After two years or so, I started having pain in my right hip and down my leg where it was uncomfortable to walk. I also developed neuropothy in both feet. I did not understand what the problem was. I went to multiple doctors, and no one could figure out what was going on. A year later I was in so much pain that I had trouble sleeping and could barely walk at all. Long story short, it was the Femara. I have been off of it for a year. After several months, I was not feeling that much better, so ended up going to an accupuncturist only becaus I was desperate! The next day my pain was gone which absolutely amazes me. I still have the neuropathy, but I can deal with that. I started last january having a monthly injection of Faslodex which so far has caused me no problems. My doctor put me on Arimidex, I had so many side effects he changed me to Femara in late 2007. I already had arthritis and a little bit of osteoporosis, but since being on Femara my quality of life has gone down hill. My memory is bad, I am tired all the time, my osteoporosis is worse so I am on Aldendronate. I now have to use a walking stick some of the time. I get very depressed and teary my health is going down faster than what it would have been. I want to come off the Femara but am a bit scared of doing so. Am seeing my doctor soon and see what he says. Cant really gone on like this forever. | When I went on this drug I had some of the side effects but over the past couple of years the side effects have increased. Since going on it I have now been diagnosed with Factor V Leiden which is a clotting disorder, and read that clots are mentioned in the femara right up. It was made clear to me from the Onco after many complaints that this drug gives you a whole 2-7% advantage against cancer returning. Definitely not worth the awful downsides! I've quit it after a year and feel slightly better after being off it for 6 months now, but still have joint pain muscle pain, difficulty getting going after sitting awhile. Had severe side pain on the arimadex. My side pain is gone however I am having pain in my neck, knee and calve. I cannot go to the gym anymore and my quality of life has been compromised. I’ve had it. There are so many side effects that if cancer doesn’t kill me, a side effect will. Having my first grandchild this Dec and plan on being an active grandparent. At that time I was going to tell my Oncologist that I was going to discontinue taking Femara as "quality of life" was as important, if not more so, than living with extreme pain this drug was giving me that virtually gave me no productive life.
