| 3 | persistant scarring acne | Depression, un-provoked anger, crying and mood swings, dry lips, skin, mouth, nose, and throat. Cleared up acne very quickly and effectively, but side effects may not be worth it! | Drink at least a gallon of water a day & constantly apply moisturizer to your lips and skin. I lost my voice if I didn't constantly drink water while on accutane. My lips would swell up unless I put Aquiphor gel on them every hour. And I didn't believe that a pill could really change your personality, but this one seems to. I stopped taking it a month early but still have panic and anger attacks. It is hard to drive without road-raging and I lose patience with people like never before. I think that it made me defensive, insecure, and almost suicidal. It wore me out, but cleared my skin and scalp better than the last 13 acne meds I have taken. I don't know if it was worth it, though. I was really happy with how it was working and the side effects are easily tolerable except they aren't kidding when they give warnings of depression! My sanity is worth more than my vanity. Its not perfect but better. The major side effects that I experienced were dry lips (you can't smile easily without lip balm), dry eyes, dry inside my nose, and dry skin on my hands. Now that I am off Accutane my skin and hair went back to oily but not quite as bad as before. I have also seen some of my friends seem a little more sad or emotional than normal while on Accutane- but these are also the friends who were emotional and sad before they got on the Accutane. Maybe people who are already sad should avoid taking it. It's just a bit annoying since I wear make-up and you can really see my dry skin. I've just been putting a mild lotion on everytime I get out of the shower and when I wake up in the morning. My lips kill. They peel and crack and just loathe me. Chapstick has become my new best friend since I've been taking Accutane. My scalp has become dry and flaky. I just wash it with just conditioner everytime I shower instead of shampoo. Conditoner still has alcohol in it so it still somewhat cleans your hair, but doesn't dry your hair out as much. My hair has beenn falling out a lot too. But that's not really a big deal to me. My lower back gets sore not when I'm active, but when I lay down and rest. It doesn't last long and it's a good excuse to have your friends massage your back. The only time I had a nose bleed was when I was sick and was blowing my nose a lot. Other than that, my nose hasn't really given me any problems.
