| 1 | Gum infection | I was prescribed this by a dentist. I'd used a chlorhexidine ointment on one spot before that had caused my gums to bleed by the third application (then I'd stopped using it) but the dentist made me doubt my experience and said this mouthwash was "for only one day" (3 times in the day) so I started it. I only used it as a mouthwash (NOT a throat gargle). After the third application, I woke up next morning with an extremely dry mouth and throat which did go to normal within the hour. However, when I began to eat I noticed that my throat was very burned (very red) and that it was painful to swallow food and even water. That was 6 days ago and I've been on a soft, room temperature food ("esophagus" diet) ever since. In my case it has been improving but I've not yet fully recovered. Just now I woke up in the middle of the night with a sharp pain in the stomach and a dry feeling in the throat that had not happened before (even though it's been recovering) but these went away after I sat up and sipped some water. The first couple of days after that third rinse I also had diarrhea. I see from comments here that that is also a reaction to the chlorhexidine. That also cleared up (but I'm using pharmaceutical probiotics which probably helped). I've also had some sensitivity in my salivary glands and thought it was from the gum infection, but I see that others have had this too so it's probably the chlorhexidine. No taste change or metallic taste. I see m | DO NOT USE. TOO RISKY. SEEMS VERY DANGEROUS. In my case, brief use of MILD hydrogen peroxide worked more slowly but did not have such a big reaction. With that though you need to stop if you feel any nerve irritation (eg pain in teeth) or other effects. Wonder how long this lasted for the people who had adverse effects ? Like I said it’s been 3 weeks now. And I’m pregnant . This is very distracting and makes me want to cry almost everyday.
