| 5 | My skin always hurts! Always! | None. Sunburn sometimes | About 25 years ago my skin started to always feel like it was on fire. My skin would always ache. My skin would always feel inflamed. I would ache all over. There is absolutely nothing to see. But it hurts! I've been to probably over 100 doctors. Pain cause depression, So I've taken many different types of meds for the depression. After about 10 years of pain, I was put bactrim to clear up a skin rash. Suddenly all my skin pain disappeared. The rash went away, but when I stopped the bactrim mu skin pain returned. Started bactrim back up, most skin pain disapated. Currently I take lyrica and the bactrim every day. Sometimes I take one bactrim, some times 2 daily. Believe me this drug works!!! No side effects. I love this stuff!! I was told by my dermatologist at Penn State Medical Center that bactrim has an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. He said all dermatologists know this. He said it's a safe long term drug. He said it's no worse than taking a blood pressure pill every day. This is a Penn State doctor! This drug has given me hope. I've tried to stop it many times but the pain comes right back. I have no side effects except for sunburn sometimes. I have taken it for 15 years now. Can't live without it. Please don't encourage others to remove this drug from the market. Trip to the doctor in a few days.. I really hope this goes away. Terrified to be alone or go to sleep due to the severity of the side effects. It should be taken off the market, based on what it did to me; the problems that were a result of taking it as prescribed. | M | 58 | 2 weeks | 5/3/2018 | 2 | Preventative/Fishing Injury | Nausea, neck/ear pain, rash beginning on day 9 | I was prescribed Bactrim as a preventative measure after I had a nasty fishhook injury. For the first 8 days, I was fine. My wound healed up nicely, and the only side effect I noticed was nausea, but taking the pill with a meal and drinking plenty of water helped alleviate the nausea. On Day 7-8, I had some pretty significant ear and neck pain, but took Tylenol and went on with life. On Day 9, I woke up what I thought was poison ivy on my forearms. I took my morning dose of Bactrim anyway, and within an hour I had itchy red welts coming up on my chest, back, and legs--in places I could not have poison ivy. Within a few hours, I was covered. I called my dr, who confirmed I was having an allergic reaction. Now, 36 hours later, after a steroid shot and Benadryl every 4 hours and lots of water, the rash is finally starting to fade. I never knew I was allergic to sulfa drugs, but I know now. If you get a rash while on Bactrim, call your dr and stop taking it! So started the internet research and found this site. After reading about 100 posts , I think I can make a reasonable deduction that Bactrim is the culprit.Also read adverse effects on Mayo and Cleveland Clinic sites and can confirm my symtoms match those listed. | My last dose was Fri Mar 1st and will not be taking any more. This is the first time iI have taken a sulfa antibiotic and will never take again. I had flu like symptoms from day one of taking this medication, but never attributed it to the medication till I landed in the hospital from it. I was weak, had difficulty coughing, urinating, and a low grade fever. The full body reaction of hives and vascultis appeared the day after I stopped the medication. I did not finish my prescription.
