| 1 | Acne | Panic attack 3 hours after taking it. It started as blurred vision, then compounded into a full-blown panic attack. The thing about panic attacks is that they exhibit a lot of the same symptoms as anaphylaxis, so that made my anxiety even worse. I almost went to the ER because I thought my throat was swelling shut. My chest and throat felt tight and my heart was pounding. The skin on my face got slightly red and hot. My hands and toes were tingling/numb. I burst into tears. It was an absolutely horrible experience and I would rather struggle with breakouts than freak outs. | I took it approximately 5 hours ago and I am feeling ok at the moment because I read so many of you experienced the same side effects. This morning I experienced another rush of panic while driving which tempted me to seek out urgent care but I ultimately refrained. 24 hours have passed and the general feeling of unwellness has lifted now that the effects have dissipated. I wanted to give this medication a fair shot and continue taking it but after the second wave of anxiety I don’t believe it is right for me. I was prescribed 50mg to start by an online tele-dermatology website called Apostrophe. I decided to only take half of a pill (25mg) as a precautionary measure. I strongly advise anyone to start out small and see how your body reacts. Opted instead to go see a holistic esthetician who spent 2 hours with me looking at stress, diet, hair care and skin care products, habits, etc. Switched to a natural skin care routine focused on building back moisture in my skin barrier. Acne has resolved. Haven’t had a single panic attack since d/c spironolactone. | Discontinued use on Day 14. Anxiety/depression onset does not align with typical menstrual cycle and uncharacteristic of PMS symptoms. Panic attacks were debilitating requiring use of prescription anxiety medications to function. Drug interactions between spironolactone & anxiety medications increase dizziness and not recommended for sustained use. Safer to discontinue use of spironolactone. No benefit to acne (prescription reason) was seen in 2 weeks. Confronted my dermatologist about the side effects; she told me I was crazy.
