If you just have depression, Lamictal is NOT the drug for you! and adding it on to "help" your antidepressant only insures that you will add on more side effects, and more trouble getting off of yet another drug. My ability to be creative and think critically is gone, I can't retain memory or learn new things, and the scariest side effects are the periodic tremors and weakness in my limbs. I've had every test under the sun, and am told I'm in great health. I sometimes wobble when I walk and I'm a zoned out zombie now. It's affecting my performance at work and my confidence as a competent adult. Every day feels like a battle against the debilitating fatigue and vertigo, heavy weak legs, and inability to adequately comprehend thoughts and words. Lamictal curves my manic and brings me out of my depression. It actually gives me energy. Currently on 150 mg.), abdominal pain (from constipation), dry eyes. | The side effects are unpleasant, but tolerable. This drug has saved me. I was an absolute mess before, rapid cycling constantly, rampant paranoia triggering both depression and mania. I've been upping my dose slowly from 25 mg. I know immediately when I need to up it because the paranoia starts, and once I up it, the paranoia goes away completely. It's changed my life. I've been bipolar since I was 4, and I've never known what it's like to have a stable mood. It's heavenly. I will deal with the side effects. The anxiety can get pretty bad, but because my mind is clearer than it's ever been, I am able to talk myself through it. On 100 mg, no side effects. | Lamictal is a godsend for me. I had no success with cymbalta, remeron, or pamelor - I was depressed all the time (mainly due to orthopedic pain and related incapacities) and often anxious. My psychiatrist said it was worth trying lamictal along with the cymbalta and remeron that I was taking at the time, and within a few days I began feeling a bit better, even at 25 mg of lamictal. Went all the way up to 200 mg and discontinued the other meds, but found that 200 mg was too much. A 100 mg dose of lamictal has been helping enormously with my depression and anxiety. I currently take 150 bid, and neurontin 300 mg. I am not sure if both medications are working for me. I was diagnosed with Manic Depression (now known as Bi-Polar Disorder) in 1994. I have tried a lot medications over the years to regulate my swings. In October I started seeing a therapist and psychiatrist because I had been in Mania for about six months. Once the doctor diagnosed me with BP1 put me on Lamictal, initially with 50mg and titrated up to 200mg. I am currently sleeping me through the night (roughly six to seven hours, a change from one to two hours) and my mood is now balanced and I am more focused. I think Lamictal is a wonderful medicine.
