TIROSINT  (LEVOTHYROXINE SODIUM):  Levothyroxine is used to treat an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). It replaces or provides more thyroid hormone, which is normally produced by the thyroid gland. Low thyroid hormone levels can occur naturally or when the thyroid gland is injured by radiation/medications or removed by surgery. Having enough thyroid hormone is important for maintaining normal mental and physical activity. In children, having enough thyroid hormone is important for normal mental and physical development. This medication is also used to treat other types of thyroid disorders (such as certain types of goiters, thyroid cancer). This medication should not be used to treat infertility unless it is caused by low thyroid hormone levels.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Hashimotos Had bowel problems prior but never bloat. I literally went from not going to extreme measures to just go because of the pain I wanted to go to er every day! Was told drug would be of no importance hah. Had completed upper and lower gi with clean bill. My self esteem has plummeted I'm not seeing numbers change. I am so happy to see the results of others just like me here. This drug is bad for your brain and body. Im stopping today. This drug has changed my mind into depression and my body into pains all over I never thought were from this but its the only addition. Felt better with hashimotos seriously. F 43 6 months

1  Hypothyroidism Omg what the hell did I do this drug is a nightmare. The side effects alone are worse than the disease. For me the worst thing was it made me look pregnant and I'm normally a healthy active 125 lbs. The weight gain and bloating is by far the worst. But I also noticed frequent headaches when I never really had that issue before. Fatigue and being moody frustrated and scared me too. F 36 0 months

2  Hypothyroid I have been having trouble with side effects from Natural Thyroid meds like Armour, NR, Nature Throid so my doctor was kind enough to send samples. I had high hopes but after about 10 days I started getting severe shoulder and arm pain. Also pain in my right foot. I'm so disappointed and not sure what thyroid medication I'll be able to tolerate without bad side effects. With that being said just because it didn't work for me doesn't make it bad but I feel better seeing others also having issues, Thank you so much for posting! F 57 16 days

3  Hypothyroidism Blurred vision, had lower leg cramps off and on, and occasional headache, at 50mcg. So, we reduced dosage and my blood work numbers are still in range. Personally, I would prefer getting off of it. I still have blurred vision. It is expensive, but I get worse side effects with Synthroid by 2 different manufacturers. F 73 0 months

1  Hypothyroid Blurred vision, migraines, weight gain & abdominal pain. It worked great at first and then a month in, started gained weight like crazy and I thought I was losing my mind. I was very physically fit before I started taking it but now you’d never know. I haven’t been the same since I went off of it and back on Armour. I had sever cramping/GI issues. I went from having bm’s 3-5 x’s a day to maybe 2 x’s a week! Horrible! Have struggled for months (4 months) now losing the weight I had already lost before I was taking it! F 39 7 months

3  Thy cancer Worked great at first but sometimes had numbness in fingertips and headaches. Then around 5-6 months developed severe pain in tendon on left side of neck to back of shoulder. Didn’t realize it could be related to meds. Switched back to NP thyroid and pain has resolved. I think my dose was too high. But my endo wouldn’t listen and likes my TSH very low. Frustrating.  1  Hashimotos / no thyroid Irritability, anxiety, paralyzing depression, devastating gastrointestinal issues landed me in the ER with violent stomach pains, bleeding, pressure and pain. CT scan shows Ulcerative Colitis. My life is changed forever. I didn't have this before Tirosint and I am now forced into a plant based diet because if I am hungry at all, whatever I eat makes me sick as a dog and then I can barely function. Took exactly as prescribed. Horrible fluctuating levels. 14.99 to .78 in 3 weeks, to 43.2 in 2 months. I feel like I am dying. My eye sight is even affected. Blurry vision all the time with super watery eyes. Had this for 42 years. Recent ultrasound shows thyroid gone. Put on Tirosint, TSH 14.99, 3 weeks later .78, 1 month later 43.2.Horrible Experience. Worst part is, the dr. who gave it to me told me it was obvious to her that I had not been taking my medication for at least 2 weeks. I was livid that she accused me of that. How does it benefit me not to take it? I have no thyroid left and I am 100% dependent on thyroid meds to live. The arrogance is astonishing. I took this med as prescribed because I want to feel halfway normal again. Now, I'm with Mayo and we are trying to get me somewhat adjusted prior to seeing their Endo in January 2020. F 48 3 months

1  Thyroid cancer - thyroid removed Armed okay the first few years. Now, it makes me horribly depressed. I feel suicidal and like I’m just about ready to die. Also, started having episodes of severe diarrhea and vomiting. I feel like this drug is very dangerous to some people. I am taking only 150 mcg a day until I can be seen to get off of it. Due to having no thyroid, my doses are much higher than most. STOP THIS DRUG AND CALL DR IF YOU FEEL SUICIDAL OR DEPRESSED. My TSH is 28.0 with just taking one, and I feel a thousand times mentally and physically better. F 47 5 years

1  Hoshimoto's Major pain in left shoulder running up into my jaw and head, Pressure headaches felt like my head was going to explode, tightness in my shoulder muscles to the point where I couldn't relax to sleep. Stopped taking it went back to generic synthroid, it's doing the same thing. Even tried desiccated can't take it either. My doctor is at a loss as to how to help me. F 44 7 months

5  Hashimotos NONE! For unknown reason , Dr switched me from brand name Levoxl to a generic, then to brand name Synthroid. Synthroid caused really bad side effects. Asked to be switched back to Levoxl or the generic. Dr. Asked me to try Tirosint before switching back and I'm so glad I agreed. Its more expensive than all others but it helps more and I have no noticable side effects. I will continue Tirosint unless while I can afford it. If for some reason I can't afford it I will demand my 2nd choice, Levoxl. 6 months

1  Hypothyroid Constipation, weight gain, not sleeping well, some days with just no energy I just wish there was something that I could take, that I felt good while taking it. Very frustrating. Still taking it for now. Planning on talking to MD about going back to Levoxyl. Although, after being on it for 20 years, my levels kept going up and down the last year. That's why I'm on trinosint.  1  Hypothyroidism For the first two weeks Tirosint seemed like a miracle - no side effects, was feeling great then the headaches started, forgetfulness, disorientated, fatigue, anxiety, my eyesight was horrible and insomnia. I felt like I was losing my mind and going to die. What a nightmare. Three days off of this and I'm already feeling a lot better, thinking clearly, sleeping but still a bit fatigued and still have a bit of anxiety, I can't wait for this to be completely out of my system. Will be glad when this is completely out of my system. 46 3 months

2  Hashimotos I added this to the 25 mcg of Cytomel I take for Hashimotos to see if I could get more energy. The first day I had a bad headache, but that went away. Felt more energetic for the first 10 days.. but started having terrible left-side pain in my neck, shoulder and upper back that has subsided since quitting the Tirosint. My ankles also began swelling after the first week and I have been having right sided tooth and jaw pain (that could of course be from something else). I had hoped a filler-free T4 would work for me. I cannot take Synthroid or Armour.. both make me feel more hypothyroid. F 58 18 days
