TIROSINT  (LEVOTHYROXINE SODIUM):  Levothyroxine is used to treat an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). It replaces or provides more thyroid hormone, which is normally produced by the thyroid gland. Low thyroid hormone levels can occur naturally or when the thyroid gland is injured by radiation/medications or removed by surgery. Having enough thyroid hormone is important for maintaining normal mental and physical activity. In children, having enough thyroid hormone is important for normal mental and physical development. This medication is also used to treat other types of thyroid disorders (such as certain types of goiters, thyroid cancer). This medication should not be used to treat infertility unless it is caused by low thyroid hormone levels.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

4  Hypothyroidism Started taking Tirosint 50mcg a year ago along with a T3 medication added due to very low thyroid. Had some hair loss when I started this, then that finally went away. My vision was a little worse too. I felt so good on it. Went for lab test again at my year checkup to see where my levels were. Was on Tirosint 50mcg for a year until my Doctor said I could get off my T3 medication bc my test results were good (hoping my T-3 would work on its own conversion) and see how I do on Tirosint 75mg. Well... I wish I never changed my dose. Been on this dose of medication for three months now. My hair went to extreme fallout, losing clumps of hair, my vision got worse, and this is probably not related, but I now have plantar fasciitis. Probably not from Tirosint, but timing was perfect. Noticed I am tired again, that's probably from not being on a T3 medication anymore. Getting test results soon. No weight gain or weight loss by going to a higher does, no stomach pain, no body aches. Just blurry vision worsened, and bad hair loss that has not gone away. Going to ask my Dr to put me back to Tirosint 50mcg with my T3 med. I think Tirosint is a good drug, one of the more cleaner thyroid meds on the market. I heard Tirosint came out with another drug called Tirosint Sole (I think it is called) being only cleaner with only 3 ingredients. No dyes or fillers too. I am going to just try and go back to my original lower dose of Tirosint. Hope this helps. F 56 1 years

1  Side Effects Partial thyroidectomy 2012 and Hashimoto's diagnosis. Took Tirosint for years with tolerable side effects. Early 2019 side effects became intolerable: terrible insomnia, anxiety, hot/cold, squeezing in chest and throat, blurred vision, headaches, jaw pain, lost 50% of hair. All thyroid labs were good/TSH normal/low range. Called Tirosint about formula change and they said no. So desperate I quit taking in February for five months. Felt better off meds first few months then loss of appetite/slowing metabolism, puffy face, with 81 TSH by July. Was prescribed compounded Levo/T3 sustained release and it made me very sick with strong heart palpitations and increase in BP. Afraid to try dissected due to heart palpitations from T3. My body is unable to tolerate thyroid hormones, but I need a way to treat my severe hypothyroidism. Seen several doctors. None of them have been helpful. I want my life back. F 53 7 years

3  Hashimoto's My Dr. swapped me from Synthroid 50mg to Tirosint 25mg due to horrific headaches, hair loss and stomach issues. I endured hair loss for another 2wks on Tirosint but have noticed it's decreased in shedding. I doubled the dose to 50mg by taking 2/25mg which immediately upset my stomach ( pretty sure it's something in the casing). So I'm switching to 50mg Tirosint SOL as of tomorrow. We shall see if the casing of the pill is the problem. I have also noticed blurred vision and a bit of joint discomfort but I'm almost certain it has to do with lack of T3. I will be back to post in a few weeks additional info concerning Tirosint SOL w/Liothyronine. F 45 3 weeks

1  Hashimotos I did well on it for years - but began experiencing hyper like symptoms - anxiety, nausea, no appetite, dizziness, heart palps, muscle pain, neck pain and headaches. Stopped 100mcg and began feeling better within 10 days. My blood work showed TSH was 0.1 but FT4 was optimal and FT3 was low end of normal at 2.7. Started lower dose (88) per my doc and by day 4 the symptoms had returned. Im not taking anything right now but was changed to brand name Synthroid. Im scared to take anything at this point! I initially felt good but not sure what caused the big change. F 39 4 years

2  Thyroidectomy Thyroid cancer Pain from ear to ear up through chin, headache, eye pain from strain on eyes, neck pain, chest pain, pain in right arm, fatigue, Sadness, Brain fog. When I started taking Tirosint I felt great but the longer I take it the worse I feel. I was taking Levothyroxin after my thyroid was taken out but had to get off of it because of side effects due to the dye used in it. I feel like I missing out on life most days because of all the horrible side effects. Not sure if there is something else to try. Drs appointment in the morning. F 46 90 days

5  Hypothyroidism It was hellish before Tirosint..... Only positives from myside. Im quite surprised ar all the negative reviews cuz in reality NONE of the medicines with additives compares to Tirosint.... I understand that it’s expensive but for me it is the best by a long way.... Even my doctor said hey take the $10 one it’s the same.... I’m sorry they are NOT THE SAME.... Maybe it suits me cuz Im male but I dont know.... But yeah it would be nice if it was cheaper.... Once again Tirosint helped me massively.... Thanks. M 44 4 years

1  Thyroid Cancer I have all the side effects mild to severe for the exception of suicidal thoughts. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer 8 years ago total Thyroidectomy. I have hypothyroidism and hashimoto's. I have had 1 normal thyroid panel in 8 years. I gained 45 pounds, it has not gone away, no matter what I do. Clean diet no alcohol, no caffeine, excercise. Am so allergic to the few thyroid drugs that are out there. Tironst is by far the worst for me. I have been on tironst before 7 years ago. I have been to 13 endocrinologists , The Mayo, Cleveland Clinic, what a joke they don't know what to do with me. I have had every expensive test know to man trying to figure out why My body just screams STOP the MEDS!! My body is being held hostage by these meds. Stopping the meds is not an option. I have stopped taking the meds, its amazing how much better you feel for a few days. Am constantly starting over. Can't take it anymore! Maybe for people who are the norm, tirosint probably works for them. Tirosint is still very expensive, my insurance does not cover it. It's not for me so allergic to it. F 68 3 months

1  thyroidectomy For four years, I had no problems. I functioned normally, running 10kms, hiking regularly and enjoying being outdoors. Last October I started a new batch which seemed "hard and like plastic" I thought it was a new formula and didn't pay much attention. Six weeks in, I had a bout of depression (the first in my entire life and very strange for me) which lasted two weeks. Icoudnt stop crying and get dreadful. Then I developed gastro intestinal issues. These got worse and worse but because of COVID 19, my GP couldn't refer me to a specialist. I sat it out until I could see a Gastro specialist in Lugano in May. he discovered an extremely inflamed colon and a considerable blockage. He couldn't say why this had happened. I had a THS, FT3 and FT4 test and my TSH had tripled and FT3 had halved in the space of 6 months, I stopped taking TIROSINT and reverted back to levy tablets. It has taken about three months, but I am now beginning to feel lie my old self, However, I cannot tolerat Today I bought a new batch of TIROSINT (TICHE in Itay) and decided to experiment to see if they actually dissolve. I put one in lemon juice at 8am this morning. Im still waiting for it to change - its still a plastic sphere. Im sure they don't dissolve properly and this is what caused my terrible gastro problems this year. My belief is that they have changed the formula to make it more cost effective as originally these gel capsules were actually SOFT and malleable. F 57 5 years

1  Hypothyroidism Extremely blurred vision Hyper watery eyes Headaches Bloating Chronic Extremely painful knee joints both knees (not usual for me) Chronic Right hip pain (not usual for me) Massive hair thinning and fall at any dose higher than 100 Weight gain any dose lower than 125 but then hair falls out Excessive neck stiffness (not usual for me) I really wanted this to work, made in Switzerland, supposedly better absorption was a plus for me. I’d been on compounded for years with no issue - then in 2018 got a quack of a Dr who over medicated my beyond belief. Was on synthroid 125 plus compounded t4 104 & t3 65. Nearly had heart attack was so terrible. Found a new Dr - trying Tirosint was really hopeful but all the symptoms I tried to explain away ; watery eyes meh allergies Knee pain - sitting differently now working from home - meh nope Headaches - I’ve had my whole life I can’t bend down with out having my husband help me up or push myself off floor. I just turned 50 and am a healthy fit person so all of these chronic issues as unusual and I can’t gaslight myself any longer trying to explain away these effects as not being Tirosint related. These have all originated to a greater degree since February 2019 and now its August 2020 and I’m calling it quits on this. Googled others experiences - found this forum and it validated many of the issues I am currently experiencing so emailed Dr today to break up with Tirosint. Good luck everyone - wishing you all good health this thyroid struggle is real - wish there was something better out there for us all F 50 9 months

3  Hashimoto This drug has been both good and bad. It builds up in my system and then I have to stop. I have to add cytomel to it or I will be depressed. It causes my arm and shoulder to hurt if the dose is to high. It also causes severe pain to the right side of my body especially under my ribs. It will also cause my stomach to swell. What happens is it builds up in your blood and if it's not converted to t3 it causes your body to swell so I stop for a few days and then start back up. It's very powerful because it's pure. It's also expensive. You have to start a lower dose than other meds. Also cytomel will take away your depression. F 48 1 years
