TIROSINT  (LEVOTHYROXINE SODIUM):  Levothyroxine is used to treat an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). It replaces or provides more thyroid hormone, which is normally produced by the thyroid gland. Low thyroid hormone levels can occur naturally or when the thyroid gland is injured by radiation/medications or removed by surgery. Having enough thyroid hormone is important for maintaining normal mental and physical activity. In children, having enough thyroid hormone is important for normal mental and physical development. This medication is also used to treat other types of thyroid disorders (such as certain types of goiters, thyroid cancer). This medication should not be used to treat infertility unless it is caused by low thyroid hormone levels.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Thyroidectomy/cancer Pains all over body, feet, ankle, legs swollen and couldn't walk especially in the morning before getting out of bed. Chest pain and difficulty breathing, horrible toe pain. I really was hoping this medicine was going to work because I've tried so many meds and my body doesn't want any medication for thyroid. Hair loss, hot feet mostly big toes and ankles. Had to discontinue the medication. Hope this helps others. Literally cannot take F 47 60 days

1  Hashimotos Second day of taking Tirosint when both hip joints began to hurt. At first, I just thought it was something that would pass. As time went on the pain increased and involved my lower back. Now the pain is extreme and I limp while walking and it wakes me at night. I quit Tiro 2 days ago and am hoping this subsides soon. It is debilitating! M 68 21 days

2  Lactose intolerance Took first dose today (Friday). I felt fine for an hour or two. Headache started. Sinus pressure and intense pressure behind eyes. Urgency when my bowels moved. Headache gradually got worse. Bones in face ached as as face muscles. Sore muscles all over. Weakness in right back rib cage. Chest pains. Pain in pelvic bones. Bladder pain and either right ovary pain or appendix pain. Breast tenderness. Aching pain over upper left quadrant of thyroid. Dry cough. Blurred vision. But helped my hearing. I'm sure this medicine is beneficial. But not for me. F 28 1 days

1  Hypothyroidism I have extreme sensitivity to fillers/binders in medication and thought this is my solution since it's suppose to be "clean".... I recently was seen for terrible bilateral foot pain that's been going on approximately 4 weeks with no sign of injury, was also recently seen for irregular heartbeat, racing heart but all tests were normal, extreme restless legs at night, joint pain, insomnia, anxiety, gastric issues, eye changes, hair loss and increased migraines. My doctor said it could not be the medication since it's only levothyroxine, water and glycerin. My body says otherwise. Hoping to get into an endocrinologist soon. I'm stopping the medication to see if I have improvement. I feel like I'm losing my mind. I feel for everyone having issues. F 47 6 months

1  Hashimotos Thyroiditis Extreme fatigue, rashes on my face, joint pain, muscle weakness. 5-6 days a month I literally cannot function. I finally quit taking it two weeks ago and all of the horrible symptoms are almost gone. I took it today just to see if it was a coincidence. Within an hour I had horrific stomach pains and felt like I was on fire. I will never take this again. F 55 8 months

1  Thyroidectomy I'm trying to be patient and scientific about the potential for this drug since my doctor seems to think it will work for me. I have had trouble stabilizing TSH, lots of ups and downs since cancer/removal in 2015, but it has been VERY difficult. This site is a game changer for me bc I realize I am not alone. I wish I could offer hope to all of you who are experiencing the horrible symptomology (debilitating joint pain, insomnia, anxiety, depression, frustration,...all of the above). But I can only thank you for taking the time to share your experiences. I am calling my doctor Monday. Pretty sure it IS poison. The worse part is that stating the truth makes you feel like a crazy person. You do feel like you are dying. Am I just on too strong of a dose? Doctor has dropped 3x (112, 100, 88 when I was mostly stabilized on 112 of generic Levo.) Time will tell. I'm even seeing a therapist now, after 47 years of no mental health issues. She wisely told me that I need to advocate for myself. I wish I could advocate for all of you. I can only say you're not alone. Don't let it beat you. There's too much beauty in this world.  3  Hashimoto Increased knee pain and flexibility. Increased pain in my feet numbness in my toes. Increased flare-ups in my hand joints. My numbers are in range and I still feel so exhausted with a heaviness in my body. Daily sharp headaches. Occasional dizziness. Fogginess in my head. Unable to process too much information at once. Decreased ability to handle stress well. Tirosint sent gel caps are better on my stomach. They do not cause my stomach to cramp up, but have caused my body much pain and dysfunction. I don't know what to do my body doesn't like armor or levothyroxine AKA synthroid. I'm only 52 and feel trapped in this body due to feeling like I am crippled. My symptoms started about a month and a half into taking this med. I switched from armor thyroid due to cardiac response. And before that I was taking synthroid tablet which was causing unbearable flares in my body as well. 52 11 months

1  Hashimotos Shortly after my father died, I went to my endocrinologist because I was feeling extreme fatigue and, of course, depression. Doc ran all the thyroid panels. My body was not absorbing Synthroid. He switch me to Tirosint. I have been beyond depressed since the switch. Depression worsened each year. Just this month I had suicidal thoughts every evening. This prescription ruined my life. F 56 2 years

2  Hashimoto’s/hypothyroid Extreme hair loss, problems with knees and pes anserine bursitis that won’t go away; insomnia (3-5 hours sleep a night), sometimes miss whole nights of sleep. Felt unbelievably wonderful first two days and then it went down hill. TSH still fluctuating even though it is supposed to be better at stabilizing. I am actually taking Tirosint Sol, the liquid form of Tirosint. I thought it was going to be a wonderful med finally. It is causing me a lot of problems I can’t ignore, mainly hair loss, knee problems and chronic insomnia. F 61 7 months

3  Hypothyriodism At first this medication was working very well with my energy and ended up thickening my hair which has always been thin, but i have many problems with this med. Problems i am having with it though is the fact that no matter how tired I am, I am always so shaky and breathing is hard. Wish i could rate this medication better but it has caused more harm then actual help. M 15 8 months

1  Hashimotos Heart Palpitations that were frightening. Ended up in the hospital but told my heart is fine. Thyroid levels are normal too. Can't wait to get off Tirosint. It has been a complete nightmare. I also see on other reviews that people complain of joint pain. I also had this problem but didn't realize it could be from Tirosint. At one point, I could barely walk. F 62 7 months

1  Hashimotos I was on this drug for a year and half. I experienced hand tremors muscle fatigue hot flashes shaky arms hands would turn red and burn depression anxiety tingling and body And joint pain. Symptoms were mild at first the month of December 2020 is when they really kicked in. Dr. doesn't believe me I stopped taking it for two days and felt better started back Synthroid on the six day still feeling better not 100% I check my TSH it was 3 which is too high for me. The nurse told me on the phone the tirosint wasn't a regulated drug. Dr. believes is placebo with me feeling better stopping the medication. How can he have an opinion when he's never taken it I can tell a difference within adjusting my dose are stopping within 2 to 3 days. I feel like this medication is trying to kill me but I also need it at the same time. But you know what doctor say if your lab work is normal then you should feel normal. They really need to think outside of that book they learn from and help the patient by their symptoms. F 37 1 years
