PEPCID AC  (FAMOTIDINE):  Famotidine is used to treat ulcers of the stomach and intestines and to prevent intestinal ulcers from coming back after they have healed. This medication is also used to treat certain stomach and throat (esophagus) problems (such as erosive esophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease-GERD, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome). It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes. It relieves symptoms such as cough that doesn't go away, stomach pain, heartburn, and difficulty swallowing. Famotidine belongs to a class of drugs known as H2 blockers. This medication is also available without a prescription. It is used to prevent and treat heartburn and other symptoms caused by too much acid in the stomach (acid indigestion).  1  GERD I did not realize it was from pepcid ac, my heart rate was 130, and I was extremely anxious and short of breath. Ended up in the er and I am currently on my 3rd day without it, still experiencing chest pain and heart palpitations, and fatigue. Does anyone know when it will subside? F 28 2 days

 1  Heartburn I took this years ago for a few months with no issues so I figured it would be fine to try again as I can't tolerate PPI. I took 10mg and within an hour I felt lightheaded and my heart raced every time I moved. Going from sitting to standing I felt like I was going to pass out, I had to stand still and wait to get my balance. Also felt disoriented and anxious, like I was in another reality or something.  3  Acid reflux I have anxiety to begin with. I was having heart palpitations so bad I went to E.R.! Through process of elimination I have come to the conclusion it's the Pepcids I'm taking! I thought my anxiety was getting way worse. I'm sitting here feeling like my heart is pounding and fluttering. It sucks! I don't recommend this pill. F 70 30 days

 1  GERD Severe heart palpations and shortness of breathe i almost went to the hospital thinking I was having a heart attack before I found this thread.my head is pounding my eyes are foggy I can't concentrate and it made my anxiety 20 million times worse!if you have anxiety DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE Horrible experience over all ...it helped the gerd but I will take gerd over these side effects any day F 30 2 days

 1  gerd I wake up in the middle of the night very frequently and I feel very lightheaded and dizzy. My chest feels tight and my mouth is dry when i wake up, i also feel really hot. My anxiety is worse on this medication and i feel so confused. I don't recommend this medicine. F 20 days

 1  GERD acid reflux Alright, I had extreme joint pain, chest pain, rashes, heart palpitations, made my anxiety worse and depression. I used famatodine and didn't know it was caused by it. My parents just kept telling me it was anxiety and it was nothing but it got worse the more I took it. I'm starting to stop now, but since my parents don't believe me to take pills should I take it once in awhile or try something else.  1  GERD Fast heart rate, nausea, shortness of breath My left side was hurting really bad so I took a this pill and 30 minutes later it woke me up from a deep sleep with my heart pounding 90 to nothing. I just threw the whole bottle away! Never again! F 24 1 days

 2  Gastritis Started taking Pepcid regularly n I noticed heart flutters/palpitations last few days. It came out of nowhere. I decided to google my meds just after I took another pill :-( Low n behold I found this site n everyone is having same kinda side effects. I will not take Pepcid again! Hope I make it! F 64 0 days

 1  gerd/colitis horrible side effects started shaken so bad raised my pulse major heart palpations and nervousness couldn't sleep up half the night. out of all these side effects the heart palpitations wherw the worse and very scary. it does take the heartburn and the bloating away immediately but the bad bad side effect are way worse F 45 1 months

 1  Acid reflux/ gerd I took the Pepcid extra strength and withing 40 minutes my heart started racing, felt jittery and just made me feel bad. I will never take this pill again. Omeprazole does the same thing to me will never take it again F 42 1 days

 1  Acid reflux Please do not take this medication. It heightened anxiety, palpatations were scary and feeling dizzy and lathargic. Did not like at all. The first few weeks were pretty good, afterwards it was downhill and I was not well. Stopped taking this and decided to work out, talked to a nutritionist and I'm on a very workable diet with daily exercise. Feeling much better. M 54 5 months

 1  Gerd Horrible heart palpitations woke me from sleep after 2 hrs, 112-124 pulse, for hours it felt like forever...I couldn't fall back asleep until 6am out of complete exhaustion but then only slept for an hour half because I was still having palpitations, stomach pains, headache. I told my pcp and she said it makes sense because I can't take benadryl or antihistamines and famotidine is in a histamine blocker, just a different kind. I would say physicians need to be made more aware...this one was prescribed to me by an ER Dr. Because I went in for chest pains, and they said it was GERD ACID REFLUX this definitely made me feel worse.
