1  Low Ejection Fraction Carvedilol drained me of all energy, breathing became labored, extreme mental confusion, 30lb weight gain, numbness in hands and feet, abdominal pain, unable to exercise. Carvedilol ruined my life. After taking Atenolol with great results for eleven years, my cardiologist changed my beta blocker to Carvedilol. Carvedilol drained me of all energy, breathing became labored, extreme mental confusion, 30lb weight gain, numbness in hands and feet, abdominal pain, unable to exercise. I stopped taking this poison (Carvedilol) after two and a half years, having it destroy my health, along with my career. Hopefully I will be able to restore my health and quality of life back to where it was before I started taking Carvedilol. Carvedilol was all negative. It was extremely harmful to my well being. Beware! M 63 2 years

2  Hypertension and other drugs did no Blurry vision, unusual fatigue, heaviness in legs, trouble sleeping. If I could find an alternative I would try it. So far Coreg is the best of a bad lot. Each chemical had I have been prescribed had awful side effects. It is the least uncomfortable of the blood pressure medication I have been prescribed while what doing what my doctor calls trialing. The others were poor and caused great discomfort (metapropolol, nefedipine, ramiphil ( which catalyzed what I thought was a heart attack). I have fluctuating blood pressure readings. F 75 0 months

1  High BP Extreme & almost immediate tiredness upon taking dose, shallow breathing when falling asleep to the point where it would wake me up and feel out of breath, low HR then high HR, crazy vivid dreams almost immediately upon falling asleep, swelling in hands, legs and feet, bp never got lower than 135/86 and this was maybe twice, mostly stayed around 140/90 to 150/100, chills, feeling like I needed to be more elevated than I usually am when trying to sleep, sometimes seemed to make chest pain worse. Went to Cardiologist for intermittent chest pain for a couple weeks prior. Never had chest pain prior. Also have long term anxiety, but not on meds for that. Previously on Atenolol 100mg sid & HCTZ 25mg sid. During the 2 weeks of chest pain and zero energy I ended up at ER and found my Potasium was super low. I was switched off of the HCTZ to Amlodipine 10mg sid in continuance with the Atenolol 100mg sid until I was able to see Cardiologist. It took a few days, but I did feel better almost a week later, but still had a dull ache in left chest. My energy levels also bounced back. (Before the chest pain would alternate between a sharp pain and dull ache.) Cardiologist switched me off the Atenolol and put me on Carvedilol 12.5mg bid (Coreg) in continuance with the Amlodipine 10mg sid. I remember the Pharmacist saying if I notice any swelling in hands or feet to stop the Carvedilol med and notify Cardiologist ASAP. (Didn't have swelling prior to all this.) I notified Cardiologist and was again switched to a new med, discontinuing the Amlodipine and put on Nifedipine 60mg sid, but was to still remain on Carvedilol. I expressed my concerns and was told by office staff it's not the Carvedilol causing the swelling... Well, ended up with an intense headache with the new Carvedilol/Nifedipine combo and swelling is still present. My gut says it's the Carvedilol and to stop it & continue monitoring BP until I F 35 5 days

1  To lower blood pressure Over the last few months, I've developed anxiety problems, mood swings with the anxiety, hot flushes sometimes and tiredness. Anxiety seems to be more constant so I occasionally take Zanax to take off the edge. My cardiologist refuses to take me off saying I couldn't tolerate other BP meds. He also put me on Valsartan 5 months ago since I had several episodes where my blood pressure was extremely high. Even with the two together I can't get a fairly constant reading. This combination does not seem to work for me. Thinking of going on a long term anxiety med. to stop the anxiety and bring the blood pressure down. I wouldn't take this again Talk to your Dr. about side effects if he advises to take this medication. F 76 11 months

1  High blood pressure Severe lower back pain! Feeing chilled all the time. I take the generic Carvedilol. I cannot believe the back pain was from this! First few days I thought I had Covid-19. Flu like symptoms.. nausea, fever, dizziness, sweating. Took a Covid test and was negative. Researched the side effects of this new drug I was on. Found I HAD to take with food. Did that and the first symptoms went away BUT back started hurting. Am on 4th day without the drug and still have pain. I wonder how long takes to get back to normal? I am disappointed because it seemed to be helping my HBP. F 49 5 days

3  Angina My whole body aches! I never know when to call 911 . I'm always light headed , fatigue, pain in my arms and legs , body stings, etc. My blood pressure goes up and down .Most of the time it is between128/87 and 118/83. It shoots up to 154/104 every now and there when I don't know what I've done to cause it to do so. I never know what to eat, because I think it will cause my blood pressure to go up. I was given nitroglycerin in case my chest starts painting. Was anyone else given nitroglycerin as a precaution? Did anyone have an angiogram? If so, did your right arm pain? As I stated earlier, my whole body aches. Chest pain, back, arms, stomach, legs, shoulders, neck etc. I never know whether I am having a heart attack or if it is the side effects. Please email me if you were given nitroglycerin as well, and if you have any suggestions that will help. Thanks! F 64 0 days

COREG  (CARVEDILOL):  Carvedilol is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. It is also used after a heart attack to improve the chance of survival if your heart is not pumping well. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This drug works by blocking the action of certain natural substances in your body, such as epinephrine, on the heart and blood vessels. This effect lowers your heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on your heart. Carvedilol belongs to a class of drugs known as alpha and beta blockers.   (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)
