PERIDEX  (CHLORHEXIDINE GLUCONATE):  This medication is used along with regular tooth brushing/flossing to treat gingivitis, a gum disease that causes red, swollen, and easily bleeding gums. Chlorhexidine belongs to a class of drugs known as antimicrobials.  5  gum infection when used daily, metallic taste...then down to 2 times a week and no side effects except a little staining at my dental hygiene appointments helped to control progression of periodontal disease..flossing daily will remove plaque/bacteria mechanically while peridex will kill anerobic bacteria chemically. A very good rinse if used properly F 45 11 months

 1  sinus lift Constant horrible taste in mouth. Swollen and inflamed neck gland. Could my low grade fever be a side effect? F 61 21 days

 2  gingivitis white and black tongue, numbness, killed good bacteria as well. harsh stuff... take tetracycline instead. M 31 7 days

 1  S/p quadrupal wisdom tooth extract. Besides being horribly unpalatable, Peridex messes with your taste buds. The label mentions the possibility of slight taste disturbance, which is a huge understatement. The severe loss of taste is an almost unbearable side effect and all-around terrible experience. This rinse is prescribed to "reduce gum swelling and bleeding due to gingivitis or oral surgery". To be honest, I think the swollen bleeding gums is the better choice. M 20 6 days
