After 20 minutes I could not lift my head from my shoulder and my tongue had swollen up to the point wear i was choking on it every time i tried to speak. I dread to think what would have happened if i had not been given the side effect drug so soon. I was very robotic in my movements for a couple of weeks, but that and the slurring has improved markedly in the last two weeks. I'm sleepy at times during the day BUT I feel 100% better on this medicine...I no longer have Anxiety, racing thoughts, or Paranoia on this med Yeah!!! I take 2.5 mg in the morning and 10 mg at night along with cogentin and Klonopin. It is a nightmare drug. A Killer! Beware.! | This drug should never have been approved at all. The side effects are severe. And worse yet deadly especially when it comes to the elderly. The GP's, psychiatrists , nursing homes and regular hospital give this out like candy to the elderly and disabled to "Keep the patients quiet and in their place." You see this makes up for the hospitals shortfall of nurses and aids. It is known as "Vitamin H" to hospital and nursing home staffers. This is a sin what our medical system is doing to the elderly in this country. I hope someone starts a lawsuit and sues the drug company's arses off as well as the doctors who prescribe it to the drail, and elderly patients who are so vulnerable. Watch out for your parents closely. If they ever need to go into a hospital, or nursing home, REFUSE to allow them to give this hellish drug to your loved one. The VERY FIRST DAY he took it, on an empty stomache, he had severe seizures and had to call an ambulance. By the time they got there, his heartbeat and blood sugar was at 30 - he almost died. And what is his doctors solution to this? Increase the dosage. WHAT? I trusted the doctor, so we did. Ever since, he has not been the same. Has almost all the extreme symtoms and quit taking the drug a few days ago. Already a noticeable improvement. He has an appt. with a neurologist because they think he had a stroke, but after doing research on this drug, I think it was the drug entirely. One notable thing: he said, especially when he was in the sun, he had a burning sensation on the top of his head which was almost unbearable. The psychiatrist eventually had me on a drug to treat parkinson that was cogentin or kemadrin I had to take one of those orange pills with the haldol. | This is really bad shit, no wonder these drugs are called " the chemical lobotomy". Haldol messes up with your brain (especially the frontal lobe). I believe haldol is what led me to use street drugs afterwards. During that month I was in a psychiatric hospital for teenagers the gave me all this crap, made me worse, when I got out of there I did not want to do anything except drink and get stoned every night. I Turned into a zombie that was oblivious to my surrounds & all creativity was quashed. These effects include muscular rigidity in the face that means not being able to move the eyes normally. dermatitis, endocrine peculiarities. For people who have taken this drug and have had a terrible reaction that doesn't seem to improve, there IS hope. You just have to wait, a long time (maybe 10 years !). Everyday I awake in a dream state. Hard to tell if I am awake or still asleep. As I get out of bed I wipe the drool from my face and try to wrangle the energy to shower and eat. All the while drooling on myself and unable to move normal. I feel like a total zombie, I can't think clear and my movement i s slow. All the probs I used to have are gone but are now replaced by this feeling of nothingness that I do not question. I dont have the energy to analyze my feelings, I use all my energy just trying to function. I feel absolutely nothing!! No sadness, no joy, NOTHING. When I sleep I no longer drift away to sleep, I pass out. I no longer have dreams I can recall, its just blackness yet its soothing in a way until I awake and the zombie returns. I really do not think I can do this much longer but my doctors insist I take it. At this rate I will end up a disabled 27 year old with a Juris Doctors | When taking Haldol alone I have terrible tremors and cold sweats.
