HALDOL  (HALOPERIDOL LACTATE):  Haloperidol is used to treat certain mental/mood disorders (e.g., schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorders). This medicine helps you to think more clearly, feel less nervous, and take part in everyday life. It can also help prevent suicide in people who are likely to harm themselves. It also reduces aggression and the desire to hurt others. It can decrease negative thoughts and hallucinations. Haloperidol can also be used to treat uncontrolled movements and outbursts of words/sounds related to Tourette's syndrome. Haloperidol is also used for severe behavior problems in hyperactive children when other treatments or medications have not worked. Haloperidol is a psychiatric medication (antipsychotic-type) that works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain (neurotransmitters).    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  A "mental illness" Horrible experience with my jaws locking up constantly. I had to keep going to the bathroom because I kept foaming out of the mouth. This was given to me at County Mental Health, San Diego, 3853 Rosecrans St. I kept going to staff and they had to give me something to counteract this. My jaws kept locking up & clenching on me which ruined my teeth. NOT RECOMMENDED AND HALDOL SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE MARKET. Apparently, I got this drug for a type of mental illness? With what I went through I wouldn't give my worst enemy Haldol. M 34 3 days

1  PTSD from trauma misdiagnosed as Psyc I was injected with Haldol resulting in violent ideations uncharacteristic of my character, tongue swelling obstructing breathing, painful jaw breaking swinging, falling and hitting my head twice, arm breaking involuntary movement of limbs, non stop restlessness, flat affect, vision loss and catatonic features. I was forced to take this despite sharing that it had deadly effects. This is a DANGEROUS DEADLY DRUG NOT suitable for human or animal consumption or administration F 35 3 days

1  Exgirlfriend invented lies about me Strange sensation in my tongue; Muscle stiffness in legs; Problems with thinking (including the loss of ablility to work out arithmetical calculations mentally); Continuous stomach pain; Unexplainable fatigue during the day; Bad dreams at night. This drug should be stopped completely. Its manufacturers are to be kept financially responsible for all the havoc they are causing around the world, and must also be prosecuted for animal cruelty if the drug had been tested on defenseless animals.  1   My father could not breathe after haldol. But nurse at st thomas hospital in nashville gave it to him after i asked her not to because the first time they gave it he almost smothered. He died the next day. He suffered all night trying to breathe. Even the next morning they wanted to give him another dose of haldol. St thomas hospital killed my father by sneaking and giving him haldol. They wanted him asleep so they wouldn't have to care for him. All they did for him was bring a fan because he was so hot from trying to breathe. They could have saved him if they had called a doctor. They hadn't even put in his chart how he had suffered to breathe. M 74 0 days

5  Schizophrenia Slight tremor, pacing, restlessness. I was put on Haldol after trying several atypicals: Abilify (no effect), Risperdal (high blood pressure/ heart arrhythmia), and Geodon (Panic attacks/ nightmares). The difference has been night and day, and I am very glad I was switched. Although it's an older medicine, it works much better for me than the newer drugs have. I have noticed some side effects (slight tremor/ pacing/ restlessness) but nothing too serious. I will definitely be sticking to Haldol and I recommend it for anyone else suffering from similar issues. F 22 7 months

1  Misdiagnosis of Schizophrenia I was prescribed Haldol while involuntarily held at Spring Harbor Mental Hospital due to my misdiagnosis. During the time in which I was on Haldol, I was completely unaware of my surroundings; other patients would later tell me that I was basically a vegetable for most of the time I was on it, unable to talk, move, or react to anything. Inside my head, I was constantly experiencing incomprehensible nightmares (think like something along the lines of the final boss battle from the game Earthbound, but being fought 24/7). After being taken off of Haldol, and being released from the hospital, I noticed that I was dealing with more migraines than usual, I couldn't think as easily, and I slowly began to realize that my long-term memories had been, for lack of a better term, "scrambled like eggs." My memories weren't simply gone, but instead, I had multiple variations in my mind of everything that I remembered, and parts of many memories were superimposed onto parts of many others. If you're a patient, never take Haldol. If you're a doctor, never prescribe Haldol. If you're a lawmaker, ban Haldol. F 24

4  Schizoaffective Disorder Mainly loss of memory My son has been taking this drug for about 5 months along with Abilify. It was working great for him but decided to lower the dosage gradually in 4 months from 4MG to 1 and 1/2 MG. He did not do well with lower dosage so he up it again to 2 MG. Working great for his Paranoia and anxiety. For the past 3 years he has tried about 10 to 12 different anti-psychotic meds but the combination of Haldol and Abilify has worked the best for him. Every one reacts differently in these drugs. Don’t give up! M 23 5 days
