| 2 | Long-term depression | Mood swings(between hypomania and depression), increased insomnia, hand tremors. | The mood swings became too much for me and i attempted suicide because i believed i would never get better. My psychiatrist increased the dosage (from 20mg/day to 30mg/day) and the modd swings have become more frequent and erratic. To be fair, I was supposed to start with only half a pill, and didn't realize that wasn't a "suggestion" until it was too late. However, half a pill was still too much for my husband (who started it at the same time as me for ongoing depression) and we had to go get him a half prescription and cut that one in half (20--> 5 mg). As it wore off, I did "feel normal" for a few hours before being depressed again. So I guess it could work, but I think I'll try some alternatives before I try this again, since my depression is pretty mild. (Gabacalm, St. John's wart). | Husband is overweight... 270-ish? Ah,ha,ha...no. For bipolar mania it's about as ineffective as a placebo, it may help for depression but I wouldn't know because I don't have depression. It didn't ease my anxiety at all. What it did do was make me sleep non-stop. I would literally sleep for 19 hours, up for 5, back to sleep for 6 hours, up for 3, then back to bed that night for 17 hours. When I was awake I was so tired and sluggish all I could think about was I can't wait to go back to sleep. I would sleep right thru my alarm, started paying my bills late and missing my appointments because I could not wake up. My last doc put me back on it for IBS but I made him lower my dose to only 20mg which is tolerable. It works very well for irritable bowels and constipation but I had to stop taking it because my new ADHD med if taken with Celexa can cause my heart to stop or explode.
