RATING | REASON | SIDE EFFECTS FOR LAMICTAL | COMMENTS | SEX | AGE | DURATION/ DOSAGE | DATE ADDED |
4 | depression | swollen glands everywhere, painful. fever. acne. | at exactly 2 weeks it made me feel wonderful just had the painfull huuuge glands in my neck head and groin. had to go to er and d/c medication even tho it cured my depression | F | 24 | 2 weeks | 12/8/2009 | 4 | Bipolar Disorder | extreme short term memory loss, trouble remembering words, often can't form mental connections, slight loss of fine motor skills, speech impediments (slight stuttering, often slurring words). slight weight gain. bad headaches at first, but went away. | the first few months on lamictal were crazy for me, i was like, all over the place in my mood, and it was throwing me from one mood to the next. started rapid cycling and then i just got really dark and depressed. however after four months (my doctor insisted i stay on it) it finally started to kick in and i've been on it for eight months now and i've never been happier. i still have really uncontrollable bursts of energy. other than the inability to speak correctly and major memory loss, i haven't had any major side effects. but the memory loss is really annoying. it doesn't mix well with caffeine, though. | F | 15 | 8 months | 12/7/2009 | 4 | Bi-Polar Disorder | Aches and pains resembling severe carpal tunnel in my hands and arthritis in my ankles...also nausea in the morning when I take the medication and an ibuprofen-resistant headache each afternoon... | I am feeling great. I am NICER...I was mean before and getting more and moreso each day...I have 3 children and all I'd do was yell at them and tell them to be quiet every day...seriously, ALL day! But now I am able to focus on everyday tasks and my house is getting back in order, I have the energy to handle deep-cleaning...I am a neat freak so here I am feeling very comfortable in my own skin right now...I am a better mom because of this medication combined with abilify and I've only been on it a short time. | F | 29 | | 12/9/2009 | 4 | depression | a little blurry vision, forgetfulness. Definitely more energy and a little weight loss, which is a good thing. | I am on 100 mg. Moods are much more stable. Don't get as emotional about situations anymore. I was at 200 mg and had terrible insomnia. Dr reduced it to 100 mg. I think it needs to be increased maybe to 150 mg. | F | 50 | 18 months | 11/12/2009 | 4 | epilepsy | For the most part, this medication is helping me. After taking Dilantin, I realized how bad that drug was for me, and once they changed me over to Lamictal, I experienced better results. I would not say that my side effects are dramatic. I get headaches, which the doctors say are normal and have nothing to do with my brain tumor, and I am recently experiencing increased, but tolerable chest pain. Everyone is different, so don't take this to mean that these are the side effects you will have, but if you do, consult your physician; it may be nothing to worry about. | I've been taking Lamictal for about 5 months. | F | 22 | | 11/27/2009 | 4 | Bipolar I | Constant sleepiness, some disorientation/clumsiness | It seems that no matter how much I sleep, I'm always tired. If I miss a day, it actually goes away.. I'm very satisfied with its ability to suppress my mania but always being tired has really gotten in my way. My grades aren't too good because I fall asleep as soon as I get home, I can't go out to the movies because staying up late is too difficult, but what can I do? Go off of effective medication? I've had worse side effects on others so I'm kind of stuck here. | F | 19 | 4 years | 11/16/2009 | 4 | Bipolar Depression w/ Anxiety | I have had none of the side effects that I've seen online, except stomach ache and heartburn, which has caused me to lose weight. That might be good for some, but I'm already thin. Other than that, this is the only medication that has worked for me in the past, so I am trying it again. It has also helped with focus, which is a bonus because I also have adult ADD. | F | 43 | 1 years 200 | 8/26/2014 | 4 | Moderate chronic depression | I was really scared to take a mood stabilizer since I assumed they all made you gain weight. But Lamictal has been great! No weight gain and it stopped my weepiness. | F | 38 | 10 months 200 1X day | 3/3/2014 | 4 | Bipolar disorder | Drowsiness was mainly the only side effect I experienced so far. Been on this medication for a while, but honestly cannot say anymore about side effects due to the fact the I am on other medication. | After taking this medication for sometime every morning when I take it I feel better....gives me a feeling of happiness, but goes away in about 30 min. | F | 20 | 8 months | 1/23/2010 | 4 | Depression | None | Lamictal really helped with depression but I still had some depression at times. | F | 44 | 4 months 200 mg 1X day | 3/25/2024 | 4 | Seizure | I had my first and only seizure a few months after brain surgery. I was put on Keppra and felt irritable and easily agitated. They switched me to Lamotrigine 200mg twice a day. It's worked in preventing any more seizures but I also feel it's dulled my emotions- but more my happiness. I still cry and feel sad emotions but when I get happy, it's like there is this ceiling to my feelings that suppresses how excited I feel. I don't know if it's timing- 9 months after surgery, Covid became a thing, so I wonder if it's a mix of post-surgery emotional recovery, pandemic life, or medication. | F | 32 | 1 years 200 2X day | 5/2/2021 | 4 | bipolar | bloating/stomach cramps, intense pins-and-needles sensation all over body at random intervals, sleep disturbances | I've taken this drug on and off for a few years now. Just started increasing my dose and finally made the connection between my at times debilitating pins-and-needles, with this drug. It's tricky to do simple things like unbutton my pants or make the bed, let alone drive or perform work. It never goes away for more than 24 hours unless I am totally off the med for a few weeks. It seems to happen most often at night, which is around the time I take the medicine- maybe I should ask my doctor about going to two smaller doses twice a day? Could this be a withdrawal symptom as it happens near the time i should be taking my next dose, or is it from the med? | F | 24 | 3 years 100 1X day | 12/1/2020 | 4 | Bipolar type 2 | Weight gain. I was prone to that anyway but I have less motivation now to deal with it! More skin problems (dermatitis etc) But it has made me a better person, better mum and I no longer suffer terrible depression. I'm also much more sensible and rarely ever drink now (Lamictal hangovers are not worth it!). | Everyone is different. Give it a go and see if it helps. | F | 43 | 8 years 100 mg 2X day | 8/2/2020 | 4 | Bipolar/OCD/Anxiety | Only side effects have been dry mouth and random gag reflex in the morning until I eat. No nausea accompanies it. I only experience that when I regularly take my full 200mg dose. If I take half it (when I get off track) then it doesn't happen. | I have been on Lamictal in addition to Prozac for over 15 years. I definitely notice a huge difference when I regularly take my full dose. I have been bad about keeping up with taking them in the past and after a couple of weeks without it I feel completely different. Lamictal helps my mood stay balanced, I don't get so emotional and my anxiety fades. I am overall happier and less stressed out | F | 32 | 17 years 200mg 1X day | 7/31/2020 | 4 | Bipolar Disorder/PTSD/Anxiety | Itching, slow thinking. | It has helped my mood swings significantly as well as the anxiety. | F | 51 | 2 months 100 1X day | 9/30/2020 | 4 | depression, mood swings | none noticeable EXCEPT I gained 10 lbs-on a 5'1 frame for total of 138lbs. | Other tragic life factors during that time; hard to believe 25 mgs could cause weight gain, but when I stopped taking it the bloating and abdominal discomfort lessened considerably, and the weight gain seems to have paused. Been off it for almost 3 weeks and pants no longer fail to zip after 1 or 2 weeks of not wearing them.... | F | 62 | 4 months 25 mgs 1X day | 4/29/2017 | 4 | fatal/chronic bipolar depression | sudden weak knees, heavy eyes, nausea, break out into sweats randomly through out the day | F | 14 | 4 months 50 | 7/30/2017 | 4 | Seizures | Mild headaches, severe insomnia | I am taking this to control seizures. In that regard, it has been fine, no seizures at all since I've started taking it. Though I think my seizures were related to a previous medication, so it's hard to say if it's actually preventing them or if I'm just not at high risk anymore. What I did not expect at all when I started taking Lamictal is the dramatic positive impact it would have on my lifelong chronic depression. I was taking Keppra prior to this, walking around in a suicidal unproductive mental fog thanks to the side effects of that drug, and the switch was dramatic. I feel greater mental acuity than I have in years. The only serious downside is I can't sleep and I'm physically deteriorating due to insomnia. I hope this to be a temporary side effect because I don't think I can live wtihout this drug. | F | 33 | 30 days 50 2X day | 9/26/2016 | 4 | Bi-polar depression | I never really had any until the past year. I've begun to feel really blunted as if my brain were in a box. Creatively I have zero ambition, but perhaps this is middle age? Now that I am tapering off I am gaining weight! | It was very helpful as well as one of the only medications I've taken that have had very few noticeable side effects. | F | 45 | 5 years 200 | 1/3/2017 | 4 | bipolar depression, absence seizure | Nausea, worsening of chronic migraines and cluster headaches | F | 34 | 6 years 400 mg | 6/5/2016 |
