Within 1 hour of taking 500 mg. naproxen sodium for muscle pain (per doctor), intense itching beginning in ears, then scalp. Severe chest pain. Within 30 mintes, hives on legs, redness of skin on head and neck. Intense itching on soles of feet and palms. No prior adverse reaction to any drug. No history of allergies or asthma. Was advised reaction was life threatening, and treated with antihistamine. | M | 14 | 1 times | 8/26/2006 | 1 | Migraine | Swelling in both eyes, with left eye almost shutting. | Had never taken Aleve before (as far as I can remember), and a friend who uses it said it would be good for my bad migraine. He was right - it worked for my migraine - but within about 20 minutes of taking the Aleve, I sneezed about 6 times, with profuse runny nose. Then my eyes started to feel funny and started swelling. Under the right eye looked like it had been injected with water, it was so swollen and puffy. The left eye looked like a bee had stung me in 2 places on the top of the eyelid. Left eyelid swole so much, it was closing. Took benadryl and the swelling stopped getting worse. Had to take 2 more doses of benadryl the following morning, as eyes were still swollen throughout the next day. I jumped into a shower hoping to rinse away whatever was ailing me and while the water seems to sooth the symptoms; I soon noticed my skin was developing puffy patches that were red, irritated and hot to the touch; it actually appeared as if I was suffering from severe sunburn. I thought I might have had the water in the shower on too hot, so I rinsed from head to toe with cool water, but the hive like rash crept upward soon covering my entire body... no long after I began feeling unsteady and I noticed I was shaking so I struggled to get dressed, thinking I might be needing to go out and about in search of some help. The itching was so intense I could not function… frustrated and struggling against the urge to itch, I | so I decided to sit this one out alone… Alone I sat at the computer and thought maybe I should try to figure out what this is… I tapped a few key words into my computer and it took less than two minutes to make the connection, so here I am…. it's been over two hours since these symptoms started; my extremities still burn a bit, my tongue slightly enlarged and my eyes still itch but my skin has returned to it's normal color and I didn’t loose my sense of humor. I must say I still think this medication is great! When I packed for my year long adventure, Aleve was a must take with me item… With several more months to go before I will return to civilization, I am holding on this medication!
