I thought I was dying. | Never take this medication--I think it is very dangerous. I felt terrible on it and stopped it after 10 days; I just couldn't complete the 14 days. I felt better when I stopped! It took 5 days for the facial edema to simmer down but it still flares. It's now 8 days after stopping the drug and I seem to have "serum sickness". Swollen joints, red burning patches of skin over my joints, face and ears, extreme fatigue, edema, and decreased urine output (kidney involvement). I see an immune specialist next week. | This is not for everyone. When I stopped taking it my doctor said "3 days is usually more than enough". Then why prescribe 7 days? Unfortunately I am allergic to sulfa so they gave me this. Never again! I think a drug named nitrofurantoin should cause concern to begin with. After the first pill, I had numbness in my left foot. After second does, SEVERE left leg pain.....rolled around in bed like a wounded animal for 24 hours. I also developed a dry, mystery cough with pain in my chest, no cold symptoms, no fever. Last night a fierce headache started on the left side of my head. This morning I woke to heavy pressure in my upper abdomen and I am left weak and concerned. Coughing hard, pain with ever cough. My joints in one hand and one knee are hurting and I am laying in bed hoping these symptoms will end soon. | I took Macrobid once before....I ended up with severe knee pain, left and right and it took about a year to subside. When I went for this scope, I had no UTI or any illness. I was concerned when the Dr. prescribed two doses of Macrobid....told the nurse after the procedure about my history with the knee pain with last dose. I’m on day two of my five day course and my symptoms are already greatly improved. The only side effect is neon yellow urine which well trailed and harmless. Many of the side effects apparently experienced by others are actually UTI symptoms. I had a fever and was completely exhausted. After several days the hives slowly subsided, leaving bruising all over my body.
