I did try cold turkey with no meds once and obviously did not work, I still feel slight anxious to smoke sometimes, but i suppose that is out of habit. Im also pleased that i have not had the urge to pig out while not smoking, which was a major issue last time. It's been about the only thing that has worked for a long period of time for me. I've been on Zoloft, Effexor, Lexapro, and Paxil. Zoloft and Lexapro were the only two that didn't create major side effects, but did not even out my moods. Effexor changed my eye sight and made me paranoid, and Paxil created a chemical bipolar change which caused hallucinations. Wellbutrin has not made me gain weight, which I love since I am trying to lose weight. I have been on it for over 2 years, and it has really helped me. Initially I had some minor issues compared to the benefits. When I am really stressed, it does seem to amp up my anxiety. Nonetheless, I think it is a wonder drug. 2 years later, I have no side effects--other than the anxiety sometimes that I mentioned (which I had before). Doc just prescribed 20 mg (which I cut in half, so 10 mg) Selexa to go on top for the week before my period, and that has been great too. I may see if I could take this combo all the time. Anyway, switched from Zoloft because I had no sex drive, and my weight would not budge. ONE PRECAUTION--DO NOT TAKE THE GENERIC. I switched for two months and thought I was going insane because all my depression symptoms came back. I did research, and it turns out that though the generic WellbutrinXL (Bupropion) has the same ingredients, the timed release part is not monitored or regulated by the FDA. Thus, I would be fine in the morning but a mess by the afternoon. I was able to "just quit" smoking. I smoked a pack a day for 7 years and then didn't feel the need to smoke anymore. I lost 20 pounds, and it really does even out my moods significantly. The first 3 weeks I took it I wasn't so sure...I was shaky and couldn't sleep much and felt like I was on some sort of serious drugs. That wore off for the most part. I think it's very important to take it at the same time every day. If I take it an hour or more later than usual I get much more irritable and usually can't sleep. The insomnia side effect never completely disappeared, unfortunately. I don't think I would have lost weight (20lbs) if that hadn't been the case, so don't let that stop you. Insomnia on this low dosage is very minor for me, so much so that I wouldn't even call it insomnia. I used to be an amazing, dead to the world sleeper, and now I can't sleep in quite as long and I sleep lighter. Overall, I recommend trying this medication! My gp eased me into it—75mg/day, then 75mg twice/day, then 150 mg once/day. A metal like taste in my mouth, decreased appetite (the best side effect ever!) I've had stomach cramping on and off but nothing worth noting. | 13 years ago, I was on effexor for approx. 1 year. I was tired, achy, unmotivated etc... I was a mess and effexor only kept me from wanting to kill myself. One day my coworker gave me Tramadol and from that moment and 13 years on, my life was transformed. Tramadol allowed me to get off Effexor and live a happy and productive life. Tramadol was my MIRACLE drug. It cures my depression, fatigue, concentration/focus, anxiety/motivation. Tramadol makes me WANT to work and WANT to do things. Since the feds have decided to target Tramadol, my insurance has made it difficult to fill. I was forced to seek an alternative. 2 months after I stopped taking my Tramadol I started to experience depression and anxiety. Everything started to stress me. On tramadol, the world could be on fire and I'd remain positive. My depression slowly started to creep up on me. I knew I had to get back on antidepressants. I started to research antidepressants that give energy and I stumbled on wellbutrin. Today is day 5 and although it can't hold a candle to Tramadol, I have to say it's a great alternative. I take Kratom along with my wellbutrin. Kratom alone didn't seem to do much but now that I take wellbutrin, WOW! As of yesterday, day 4, I've felt alert and calm/happy. I got a lot of work done yesterday, something that only happens when I take tramadol. My brain fog is gone, i can focus on my tasks and the things I'm too lazy to do get done. The GENERICS are terrible. i wanted to post a warning for people that the generics, and I've tried several, are NOT the same as the brand. On the BUDEPRION GENERIC: I've had frequent need to urinate. Insomnia, dry mouth, ringing in my ears, abdominal cramping, weight gain, increased desire for cravings, namely to binge eat and smoke again (I quit years ago). Unexpected rages and prolonged irritation, biting my kids' heads off. The depression was only mildly lifted. There really can be a HUGE difference between the generics and the name brand for this drug. I recommend trying the branded one first to see if it works then switch over to the cheaper options after you know how its SUPPOSED to work. | After an initial adjustment phase with the NAME BRAND Wellbutrin, weird dreams and some agitation, I settled down remarkably. My depression is 90% better and I suffer zero sexual side effects. I lost weight because I wanted to get out and exercise more.
