5 | RA | Diarrhoea at the beginning and itchiness resembling scabies. Also SGOT and SGPT were elevated. After decreasing the dose from 20 to 10 mg per day side effects dissapeared. | Have been taking it for 14 months now combined with Plaquenil and Cortisone. The symptoms of the disease vanished. Still have trouble waking up and gained weight mainly due to cortisone i presume. | M | 32 | 14 months | 7/17/2007 | 5 | RA | unpredictable diarrhea is the most bothersome side efect. Bowel problems as well. | It never helped from the start, they said to give it time and when I did, all it did was make me horribly sick. Oddly enough, my liver stayed fine even though it was the side effect they worried about. | F | 34 | 4 months | 3/4/2007 | 5 | Psoriatic Arthritis | During the morning and evening, I have extreme itching all over my body. My periods have lasted longer and are much heavier. | Arava has helped so much, I don't even feel like I have arthritis anymore. I started to see results after 6 weeks of taking it, and since then, I have not needed to take any Aleve, I am mostly pain free. | F | 34 | 4 days | 2/11/2007 | 1 | rheumatoid arthritis | Took Arava for 6 months. Extreme hair loss. Had a mamogram & discovered early stages breast cancer. Am now off drug. | Did the immune suppresant cause the breast cancer?? | F | 67 | 6 months | 2/8/2007 | 1 | RA | Been on Arava for 1 month and experiencing itchiness, a rash that looks and feels like bites. Also diarreah. Not fun | I was diagnosed with RA over 2 years ago. i have tried various drugs, including methotrexate and varoius anti-inflammatories. Everything has had side effects from extreme fatigue to heart palpatations, shakiness, blood pressure risen. I'm wondering if the disease doesn't get you the cure will. Would like a friend to talk to about this disease. People who haven't expierenced the pain and stiffness cannot relate. | M | 59 | 1 months | 1/7/2007 | 4 | RA | diarrhea; often wakes me up in the night; feel kind of dizzy and disconnected sometimes and wonder if it is the Arava (I take 20 mg per day); anyone else have that disconnected feeling? | also take Enbrel - 50 mg per week; the combo seems pretty good; billirubin has been high, but they did lots ot tests and all is O.K. | F | 42 | 1 years | 11/23/2006 | 5 | rheumatoid arthritis | abdominal rash that gets worse daily | This is the first DMARD I have had a fairly complete response to. The swelling in my feet and ankles is down by 2/3 and the daily pain and stiffness is minimal now. I am finally able to finish tapering the prednisone. I worried about hairloss and diarreah, but so far, so good. Just the rash. Has anyone ever scratched to death???? Still, I'd rather itch than hurt like I did. | F | 42 | 6 weeks | 11/19/2006 | 3 | RA abd AS | Been on Arava off and on for over six years. Side effects were the usual, hair loss and hair dryness, nailbed problems, gastro problems, but the main problem was and remains vertigo and loss of balance. When I go off Arava I never trip over my own two feet, but on Arava I loss my balance and fall once or twice a week, have a tough time with uneven pavement or stairs. Has reduced frequency and duration of flares but I'm still wondering if the side effects are worth the moderate relief. Sort of stuck here, though, can't take Enbrel (dangerously elevated my liver enzymes) or MTX, am running out of options. | F | 62 | 6 years | 11/11/2006 | 5 | RA | None at all. Possibly because of my age or possibly due to a stomach made of iron. | M | 52 | 12 months | 10/21/2006 |
