I had seen the Gastroenterologist for SIBO with daily diarrhea. After the EGD peristalsis stopped and I was unable to go at all. Linzess samples were given me. I took the 12 capsules daily. It causes severe water diarrhea within an hour to an hour and a half. Without taking the Linzess, I could not go at all so filled a prescription. I am on Medicare and a 30 day supply cost me $500! I resumed the medication 3 days ago. Again severe diarrhea but nothing normal. It is also causing stomach pain and bloating. I also believe weight gain as I have gained 4 pounds since I restarted the drug 4 days ago. I really think I have to stop taking the Linzess as the cure is worse than the disease and the cost is astronomical. Lubipristone was suggested as an alternative and I may try that. | Does not result in normal bowel movements, just severe watery diarrhea. But you just need to find that sweet spot for timing and how it hits you, or the dosage strength - then its a GOD SEND. It also cripples your wallet, lol. | Chronic constipation all my life that got much worse into my 30's and an occasional Dulcolax (etc) didn't cut it any more. Tried so many things but they all made life hell for 24-36 hours after taking it - and didn't always work either. Impactions, hospitalization, horrible enemas. Ugh. Then LINZESS. This stuff hits you like a freight train most of the time. 1.5 to 2 hours after taking it you get the unmistakeable gurgle and you go! Effects only last about 6 hours (for me) then it's all gone. No lingering hell. I even used it through 3 years of strong OPIOID use for failing hip joints! Had to use 290mcg daily for that, but 80% of the time it worked just fine. After my hip replacements and stopping Percocet... I only need 145mcg 2-3 times a week. Some days it hits you with very liquid runs, others just super soft. Hard to tell, depends what you ate recently. I will take 1-2 runny BMs one day a week versus being blocked up! If your insurance wont cover it, or it costs a fortune CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER and apply for assistance. LINZESS (LINACLOTIDE): See also Warning section. Linaclotide is used to treat certain types of bowel problems (irritable bowel syndrome with constipation, chronic idiopathic constipation). It works by increasing fluid in your intestines and helping speed up movement of food through the gut. Linaclotide may improve stool texture and lessen symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain/discomfort, straining, and feelings of incomplete bowel movements.
