I would, however, strongly suggest it as a last alternative. | M | 28 | 6 months | 8/23/2008 | 3 | OCD, depression | Sedation, slight initial nausea, mild apathy, prone to erotic fantasizing (have it with any SSRI). | At first, I wasn't very enthusiastic about fluvoxamine (Luvox) - it was antidepressant but not anti-obsessive/anxiolytic. Now, on a higher dose (200mg instead of 150) I feel that fluvoxamine is a worthwhile antidepressant, even when it doesn't beat obsessions for me. It isn't one of the activating SSRI's, but rather has a somewhat calming/stabilizing effect for me. In comparison to Paxil (paroxetine), which I have used before, I prefer fluvoxamine - the side-effects are milder; on Paxil I used to have horrible dreams, while on fluvoxamine my dreams are more often pleasant. Also, Paxil made my sweat smell like hell - this doesn't happen on fluvoxamine. The weight gain is still mild as well. Sexual side-effects are practically none - just takes a little longer to achieve orgasm, which I consider a pro. I think about upping the dose some more to see if the drug might help with my obsessions after all. | M | 32 | 7 months | 8/16/2008 | 4 | depressed and worried excessively | Like everyone else I had diarrhea for the first few days, nausea, and more depressed. Since then, none. | I couldn't be happier with Luvox. My obsessive thinking and anxiety has been nearly non-exsistant and is getting better each week. Started the first week on 50mg at night, so drowsiness wasn't a big deal. Am now taking 50mg in the morning and 50mg at night. I was told by 2 separate Drs to split the daily dose of 100mg and take 50mg twice a day as the "lifespan" of Luvox is quite short. So glad I've tried this! In 11 years this is the only medication that I can truly say has helped me. Less panic, recurring thoughts have disappeared, depression has been eased - Daily life is easier to deal with.
