After a ct scan which revealed a portal vein thrombosis (PVT), I was admitted and put on a coumadin drip for a week. I was sent home on Eliquis. First off, its expensive! Ever since I started taking it i began to have severe hip, back and leg pains. My dr sent me back to the er to see if i had a blood clot in my leg. I kept telling her it was this med. It didnt start until i was put on this. I finally feel validated after reading everyone's posts! I cant sleep because the joint pain in my legs, hip, back, and ankles is horrible. I keep asking the Dr's if it is this med and they just sort of shrug at me. I am supposed to take it for another month, but can't imagine another month like this. I am somewhat relieved to see that others are having these symptoms as it confirms my suspicion that this is the med. I want to stop feeling like this. During the entire time I was on Eliquis 5mg 2 X daily, and had zero side effects. I was taken of off it after the procedure. Fast forward to 9/22. I have had 2 TIA's and was put back on Eliquis. Three days after starting, I developed what is now the most intense, painful, almost life altering itch imaginable. Told to take it with the evening meal, around 2am I awaken with a burning, painful, intense itch that prevents sleep for 2-3 hours. After 1 week, I was taken of off it and placed on Xarelto. That experience is on the Xarelto page. | I have a life long problem with adverse drug reactions. I can take a drug 1 time without a reaction and the next time I take it I can be in deep trouble. And then stuck to a healthy low carb lifestyle. As well walking about 4 to 6 miles a day . BUT , by the end of 2019 into 2020 found out I have an estranged brother through dna testing and found out quickly they battled addiction , which rattled my Nerves . Then, the pandemic hit, and that really rattled my Nerves . So I was a bundle of Nerves so bad, I had an AFib issue & ended up in the ER . After that first episode ,Instead of just adjusting my metoprolol I was already taking , they added Eliquis, and gained back all that weight I lost and then some! Physically , I cannot lose it. It's got me so depressed, and stress is my AFib culprit, also get dizzy spells, my lower belly is always bloated out, sometimes odd little chest pains and my Left leg now retains water? No matter what I say to my Cardiologist, she argues it . I even called the maker of Eliquis & told them how many people are gaining weight , and I assume are getting phone calls but due to privacy wouldn't tell me if true or not ? , Which is not good for anyone' to gain more than 30+ pds , Let alone someone who already has high stress levels & can have AFib episodes from additional stressors . I feel like a huge balloon, my stomach is swollen , my left leg swells all the time now and | Also can feel feverish/chills, dizzy/fog brain .if you Cut yourself, good luck takes awhile to stop with pressure cause Your bleeding for awhile! Again, call the company Bristol Myers Squibb (Princeton NJ) , they need to know side effects they don't currently have listed or your doctors will argue with you , specifically if you state weight gain ! My SUPER EDUCATED Pharmacy Director could not find any information on these side effects, which does not surprise me AT ALL. These drug companies DO NOT WANT YOU TO KNOW! I have felt nothing but awful on this medication. I have a prior history of bilateral PE post hysterectomy and hormone replacement, which I told my physician I DID NOT want to do, but did it anyway. 6 weeks later I landed in ICU. I was placed on Coumadin and had NO SIDE EFFECTS like this new med called ELIQUIS. STICK WITH THE OLD MEDS!!! Big Pharma just pushes these new medications out to make Trillions of dollars. Bottom line, the less meds, the better. My doctor said before he prescribed eliquis to me that he would crawl across a field full of cow pies to not have a stroke, because you could be forever changed and never be the szme again so i agreed to take it. | I have had to stop for a surgery for five days and i didnt turn into a pumpkin. And another procedure i stopped it for 5 days then. My mom who takes it missed 10 days when she ran out. But those were for procedures so everybody is different maybe some cant stop for 5 days. Pretty much for me its 48 hours in advance and then the attending doctor tells me when to start up again. I think you get used to it. I stopped taking it for 2 days and felt better, but too scared of a stroke to stop entirely. | Nausea is listed as common side effect of this drug, so why do doctors always refuse to acknowledge this?
