| 5 | Major depression, GAD, OCD | No side effects going on or off this medication. I had a GeneSight test done and I metabolize this medication normally. I had a couple instances of dry eyes through all the years I was on it where I had to use eye drops and not wear my contacts for a few weeks. Weight gain for sure, but didn't get bad until late 30s (in 3 years went from 115 lbs to 178lbs). Longer to achieve O but 99% of the time possible. Low libido, but depression also resulted in same so not a deterrent from using medication. A positive side effect of its sedating properties is how well I could sleep on it. | When this medication is effective, which it was for the majority of the many years I took it, it put me in remission from depression, anxiety and intrusive thoughts. If an intrusive thought did enter my mind, it would immediately just go right through and not give me anxiety. It was "slippery" instead of "sticky" in my mind and I was able to go on with my day and be productive. I was so happy on this medication, in a good mood all the time, upbeat, optimistic, friendly, sharp. The best version of myself. So far the only medication I have tried that has worked to treat all of my mental health conditions. The only anxiety I felt was situational (big test, interview, presentation, etc) and it was manageable, which was a huge improvement from the constant tension, worry and uneasiness I normally feel unmedicated. People demonize this drug, but for me it was a miracle and gave me a great life for the past 20 years. | F | 42 | 17 years 12.5- 60mg 1X day | 8/28/2024 | 1 | Ocd | Weird dreams weight gain 2 stone racing thoughts always tied muscle ache burning feet panic attacks tight chest sex 0 | What a nightmare 💉drug never again | M | 18 months 20 1X day | 2/19/2022 | 3 | Depression, some OCD | 20 lb weight gain | Lifted my depression fairly well. Still had a detached feeling though. | F | 52 | 14 years 40 mg 1X day | 12/2/2020 | 1 | Depression, Anxiety, OCD | anorgasmia, confusion, headaches. | Took this terrible drug unfortunately, thank God i never became a long-term user. Like the other SSRI medications it helped my severe depression and anxiety hardly at all. After this, I found a MAOI depressant called Nardil which completely eradicated all my depression and anxiety...and it is very easy to take and safe (despite all the bad inaccurate publicity about MAOIs) Paxil and other SSRIs gave me more side-effects and hardly help at all. Oh, and the people who promote this drug are extremely unethical-- watch www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0ffzsrDkSQ | M | 41 | 1 years 20mg 1X day | 6/19/2020 | 4 | Depression, Anxiety, Ocd | Its was a life saver for me. Mild fatigue and tiredness and sleepiness but these can be removed with porovigil 50 mg per day.it works really good for anxiety and depression. Maybe not as well for higene ocd for me. | I highly recommend. | M | 40 | 4 years 20 mg | 6/20/2019 | 5 | Anxiety OCD | No side effect | Works for my anxiety and OCD. NO side effects including no weight gain. Love it! | F | 55 | 1 years 20 | 11/23/2018 | 1 | Depression and Anxiety/OCD | The usual when you start any SSRI with the additional problem of feeling angry and aggressive. | I just couldn't handle the anger and aggression that came on so quick. I have heard it is hard to get off, so I quickly went off so I didn't have withdrawal to add to the anger and aggression! Everyone is different but I've noticed a couple of people on here say Celexa (also called Cipramil) was good for them. I am back on it now and relieved. Maybe try it if you have had a problem with Paxil. | F | 49 | 2 days 20mg 1X day | 6/13/2017 | 4 | Panic disorder, anxiety, OCD | Slight dizziness upon first taking, sensitive to light, eye issues / blurred vision, weight gain ( was on 20MG and gained weight, on 10MG now and no weight gain., Orgasm / length of time to reach which can be a good thing. Weaning off is a little challenging, brain zaps, dizziness but I have come off of it three times, so it can be done. | This med has helped a great deal with panic attacks, OCD, not so much for depression. I was off this med for two years, and felt it had almost cured me. Best Antidepressant I've ever been on, and I tried a few. GL to all. | M | 42 | 15 years 10 MG 1X day | 12/20/2016 | 1 | Depression, SAD/OCD | Stoppedafter just two weeks due to total anorgasmia | Did nothing to help in two weeks, although prob unfair to judge efficacy on such a short trial. | M | 18 | 2 weeks 10 MG 1X day | 1/1/2013 | 5 | OCD and depression | Withdrawal symptoms | F | 29 | 10 years 40 mg | 12/19/2012 | 1 | OCD; deppresion | tired, lazy, mood-nothing, gain 30lbs, never wanted to even kiss my husban | I started the off brand off Paxil (Paroxetine) at 20MG once a day 6 months ago, didnt help. Then my doctor put me to 2 pills a day at 20Mg, didn't help. Now as of a month ago I am taking 2 pills a day at 30Mg. Has only helped me a fews days then i went back down. I just stoped taking it and i'm haveing the worst withdaws ever!!!!! I'm so sick. I wished i never got put on Paxil. But do remember it may work differently for you. | F | 20 | 6 months 30mg 2X day | 12/17/2012 | 1 | Anxiety, OCD, Depression | AROPAX (brand name used): Minimum dose: 1 @ night. Severe, chronic insomnia. Haemhorroids. Weight gain. Bruising. | The insomnia could not be relieved or counteracted by any other drug, such as oxazepam. The insomnia was severe. Haemhorroids were ongoing and severe for the entire duration of taking Aropax. They were alleviated once the drug left my system completely, a few months later. This drug, over all, was ineffective in relieving any symptoms of anxiety, OCD or depression. It only created new health problems. I do not recommend it. | F | 37 | 9 months 1X day | 2/3/2012 | 5 | OCD / Anxiety | The first week I was a bit nauseous but that quickly went away. Have also noticed lowered libido, more difficulty becoming aroused. | I used Paxil about 12 years ago for OCD/Anxiety/Depression; it was the first "drug" I ever took. It worked wonders, within 2 weeks my obsessive thoughts could no longer take hold. In the past 12 years I have been on and off many different anti-depressants. I had been on Luvox for five years and it worked very well for my ocd and anxiety, but, I had gained 25 lbs and had a lessened sex drive. I went off Luvox and was fine for a few months, until the first emotional crisis hit and I fell apart. I was totally against an SSRI because of the weight gain and sexual side effects but my doctor convinced me to try Paxil again, after trying a few other drugs with bad results. I have been on 20mgs daily for three months and I feel great. I've actually lost weight, but I also stick to a strict diet. My obsessions cannot take root with Paxil and I would say my worrying is down 90%. I can enjoy the normal things in life. The generic is only $4 per month for me, which is also great! | F | 37 | 3 months 20 mg 1X day | 1/4/2012 | 1 | Depression, anxiety, ocd, anger | Anger, no hope, thoughts of suicide, no sympathy for others, rage, hatred, increased depression, feeling like nothing was real, no motivation | Please don't take this it ruined my already miserable life | M | 19 | 1.5 years 75 1X day | 12/29/2011 | 4 | Borderline PD, GAD, OCD, Depression | Cronic fatique and sleepiness (which sucks because I have kids at home). | So far so good. Hoping this continues to help. My depression has subsided. I am still suffering from irritability. | F | 34 | 1.5 months 20 MG 1X day | 7/14/2011 | 4 | PANIC ATTACKS, SEVERE ANXIETY, OCD | FATIGUED SOMETIMES, WEIGHT GAIN, ALWAYS THIRSTY (DRY MOUTH), DIFFICULTY WITH ORGASM | TO ANYONE WHO IS ON PAXIL OR CONSIDERING IT: I WOULD ONLY RECOMMEND IT TO PEOPLE WHO ARE SEVERLY ANXIOUS, POSSIBLE HAVE PTSD LIKE I DO, OCD, PANIC, ETC I SEE SOME PEOPLE USING IT FOR "BI POLAR" AND JUST "DEPRESSION" AND I SIMPLY THINK IT'S INEFFECTIVE FOR THOSE THINGS. I DO STILL HAVE DEPRESSION AND PAXIL DOES NOT WORK MUCH FOR THAT. I FEEL LIKE IT'S EFFICACY IS SOLELY SEVERE ANXIETY AND SOCIAL ANXIETY. AFTER 2 MVA'S I AM ONE OF THE MOST ANXIOUS PEOPLE. I WOULD GET SCARED (USED TO NOW) AT LOUD NOISES, ANY KIND OF CHANGES IN MY LIFE, COULDN'T WALK INTO A ROOM THAT ALREADY HAD PEOPLE IN IT, COULD NOT SPEAK PUBLICLY OR GO TO A STORE ON MY OWN, ETC ETC. SOME DAYS I WOULD NOT LEAVE THE HOUSE BECAUSE I WAS TOO ANXIOUS. PAXIL HAS CHANGED THIS. I DO NOT THINK MOST PEOPLE ARE LIKE THIS, THUS PAXIL MAY NOT BE APPROPRIATE LEST YOU ARE SO ANXIOUS YOU CANNOT FUNCTION. I HAVE GAINED 60 LB. AND I CANNOT LOSE IT FOR ANYTHING. LIKE SOMEONE ELSE MENTIONED I GUESS I WOULD RATHER BE A LITTLE OVERWEIGHT THAN CRAZY AND SKINNY LOL AGAIN, THIS DRUG IS POTENT AND NOT FOR EVERYONE. I ALSO HAVE CHRONIC PAIN (FIRBO, ARTHRITIS, NEUROPATHY, HERNIATED DISKS, ETC) AND I NOTICE THAT WHEN I HAVE WENT OFF MY PAXIL LITERALLY EVERYTHING HURTS. NOTE: I AM ON SEPARATE PAIN MEDICATIONS TOO BUT THE PAXIL DOES HELP. I ALSO TAKE VALIUM PRN FOR WHEN I DO START TO FEEL PANICKY (OR AGITATED) WHICH IS NOT THAT OFTEN ANYMORE. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME... | F | 31 | 12 years 30 MG 1X day | 6/4/2011 | 5 | Depression,OCD,Panic Attacts. | I just started having bed wetting for the last two months and I'm very mad about this because I have a wife and 5 children and I need to know what are who I can call to stop this bed wetting, the reason for this to is because I'm a business broker worldwide and I travel so now I can not even get on a plane anymore because of this issue. If someone could try to help me more about this information, thank you very much and God Bless! | M | 33 | 5 years 40 1X day | 2/20/2011 | 1 | anxiety, ocd | extremely sleepy, lethargic, no memory, terrible word recall, extreme weight gain, no conscience, didn't care about anything. Even though I would never do it the thought of running my car into a wall sounded like it would feel good. Just weird ideas like that. Total zombie. Did things I wouldn't do normally. Spent a lot of money, ate alot, other things I won't mention. I liked that people couldn't manipulate me anymore, I liked that work wasn't stressful and everything just rolled off my back but in the end it wasn't worth the price I paid for it. It gave me IBS, hair loss. | Getting off it I am totally and completely dizzy, headaches, panic attacks, shaky, nauseated one moment then binging the next, irritable, no patience for anything. Sensitivity to light and sound, depression, can't concentrate. Don't want to do anything. My mind is mush. Still having bad memory and word recall. | F | 37 | 4 years 20 mg 1X day | 1/22/2011 | 3 | ocd | addiction to paxil | addictive | M | 44 | 14 years 60 1X day | 10/5/2010 | 5 | ocd and anxiety | sexual (harder to orgasm) headaches and constipation (at beginning, then went away) | Paxil is the reason I'm alive. When I was young I had severe OCD and realted mental illness. I was miserable and a total wreck, thought about suicide. After beginning Paxil at age 12, my life was COMPLETELY turned around and I led a normal life. 3 years ago, I stopped taking the drug and again relapsed into intense mental illness, I was so deluded I didnt even realize what was happening. I developed an eating disorder and got down to 65 pounds. I began taking Paxil again a couple of months ago. My anxiety which was utterly debilitating is nearly gone, the OCD is much, much better, and I now weigh 115 pounds and feel stronger than in a long, long time. When I was off Paxil my life was a living hell. This drug saved me. I want to share this with all those who read the many horror stories on this website and will be turned off from it. Obviously it is not for everyone, but please, if your life now is hell, dont dismiss this as a real possibility that could save you. | F | 28 | 16 years | 1/31/2010 |
PAXIL (PAROXETINE HYDROCHLORIDE): Paroxetine is used to treat depression, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder. It works by helping to restore the balance of a certain natural substance (serotonin) in the brain. Paroxetine is known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). This medication may improve your mood, sleep, appetite, and energy level and may help restore your interest in daily living. It may decrease fear, anxiety, unwanted thoughts, and the number of panic attacks. It may also reduce the urge to perform repeated tasks (compulsions such as hand-washing, counting, and checking) that interfere with daily living.
