Stick to Clonazepam or Xanax | Worst drug I have ever been on. I felt like I was giving speed and felt like a just ran a marathon. They really need to not call this anti-anxiety medication since it has the adverse effects. Don't take it unless you want worse anxiety. It took about 3-4 days until my blood pressure and heart rate went back to normal. The only thing I can say about this med is if you want to run a marathon take one of these before hand. I experienced drowsiness and some dizziness severe enough that I did not trust that I was able to drive on most days. I had crying episodes that were out of proportion to the emotional trigger. I also had lower back pain that continued for several weeks after discontinuing the drug - and then became muscle cramps in my buttocks and hips that are only starting to slightly ease after 3 weeks. But WOW the first few days on Buspar I was not too bad but just a little oozy. Then by my 2nd week on it I felt way more intense anxiety and felt like my heart was going to pop out of my chest. I stopped it 2 days ago after being on it for about 3-4 weeks and I already feel less anxiety and sleep much better and feel myself again without any chest discomfort. Buspar did not work for me!!! Only anti-anxiety that ever worked for me was Xanax or Klonopin. Buspar started helping the first day, I kid you not. I am fortunate in that I generally experience relief very quickly after beginning an anti-depressant or anti-anxiety medication. But even that first day the little panic surges (adrenaline surge/sick stomach/racing heartbeat like you get if you pass a police officer when you're speeding) decreased. It was amazing, because I'd been having them hundreds of times a day for about a month prior. By the next day, after my 4th dose, I realized I was driving without praying the whole time that I wouldn't pass out and cause an accident. Yesterday, after my 6th dose, I was aware that I wasn't scared while driving at all. I remembered what it was like to take for granted that I could operate and car and get myself where I needed to be. This feels miraculous. I could cry over how miserable I was, and over the intense relief of being able to live a normal life again. I get my perscription a week later and the next day after taking it i wake up with dry skin all over my scalp and head I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I im done throwing away my bottle as we speak.. Laughed and played all day with my son with NO anxiety. That is rare.im praying this works for me. If I could just stay asleep at night I wouldn't complain. I also take klonopin. I'm going to call my Dr tomorrow to see what he recommends... this anxiety has been a 8 year battle. Nothing else! | It has helped so much with the weird paranoia-type anxiety I have been getting lately on top of my schizoaffective and general anxiety, and my uncontrollable brooding on negative thoughts that were leading to extreme moods. I was having signs of depression coming back, too, like losing motivation and energy, general negative mood, etc. I was put on this to augment my SSRI since it boosts seratonin in a way that compliments SSRI's mode of action plus this med boosts dopamine a bit. It has helped a lot with all of the symptoms mentioned plus the aggression and irritability I was experiencing. It started working quickly for me, within the first few days, and I have had a few episodes but it seems to be gradually increasing in effectiveness. It has a subtle effect, not the doped up "relaxed" feeling you get from some other anxiety meds, but it has helped me greatly with minimal side effects. I believe in waiting out a treatment method at least a month or so because side effects usually fade with time.
