BYSTOLIC  (NEBIVOLOL HYDROCHLORIDE):  Nebivolol is used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as beta blockers. It works by blocking the action of certain natural substances in your body, such as epinephrine, on the heart and blood vessels. This effect lowers heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart.   FDA Approval Date: 2008-10-08 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Doctor prescribed for blood press. SEVERE bad symptoms that are still evident 8 month's later . Stopped taking it on my own after around 10 days . DO NOT TAKE it because it's VERY expensive and there are many other meds out there that are proven effective at a fraction of the cost . I personally feel doctors are getting a kick-back and why they are prescribing it since there is no generic yet . Caused me severe deep chest pains like my heart hurt !!! Severe cramps in legs below the knee and numbness & swelling in lower legs, feet & toes plus numbness in finger tips . I was taking my blood pressure twice a day and it did take my blood pressure down some BUT it also took my heart rate down into the lower 40's which was VERY bad and dangerous . If put on this med you MUST start taking your blood pressure twice a day and DO keep an eye on your heart rate !!! It should never go below the mid-50's ! The cramps chest pain went away after few days I took myself off this medication . I personally feel that it should be taken o OFF the market and the FDA is apparently asleep at the wheel, AS USUAL . I still have lower leg swelling & numbness, numb toes and finger tips . Had to go to a cardiologist for many very expensive tests as a result . Cardiologist is still trying to determine all damage done and have to go back every 6 weeks for re-evaluations and tests . My personal opinion is STAY AWAY unless it's absolutely necessary to take it and STOP as soon as any bad symptoms start occurring . If taking it for an extended period of time you're suppose to decrease dosage gradually . M 70 10 days

1  High Blood Pressure Pain deep inside chest feeling like my heart hurt, heart rate went down to low 40's, severe lower leg cramps at night, fatigue, fingers & toes are still numb after 8 month's so stopped taking it after around 10 days . I feel that the FDA should pull this drug because it's very dangerous, very expensive, and is paralyzing people . After only taking it for around 10 days, 8 months ago, my lower legs are still swollen and partially numb including my toes and fingertips . What started out as a normal annual visit to my doctor has me now going to a cardiologist to try and figure out what the Bystolic damaged and if it is repairable . I personally feel that taking rat poison is less harmful . Someone should start up a Class-Action Law Suit after reading the many complaints and bodily harm this drug has and is still doing . Proving that the FDA should be de-funded because they are 100% useless . M 70 10 days

1  High blood pressure Massive anxiety, dizziness, fainting, ocular migraines, joint pain, stomach issues, burning sensation in chest, short of breath, low blood pressure, sleepless, tingling in hands and feet, hot and cold sensations, foggy feeling in head...... Seemed to work ok for about 6 month and then started to feel just not right.started on 5mg and Doctor put me on 10mg when side effects got worse. No one ever questioned this medicine, too much stress at work they said. Took me a while to figure out it was Bystolic that made me sick. So much so I lost my job. Off now for one week and I'm beginning to feel better. Hope this has no long term effects. No more BB for me, ever! F 52 2 years

1  High blood pressure Pain in center of chest, extreme shortness of breath, anxiety, fatigue, dizzy spells, creepy crawly feeling in skin The shortness of breath and dizziness was so bad I went to the ER. All tests came back fine so they just sent me home with albuterol and prednisone which didn't help at all. No one ever mentioned it could be this medicine. F 37 9 days

1  BP & ectopics Foggy/dizzy head on 3rd day, muscle aches, short of breath, stomach/gi issues, tiredness Did nothing for my BP dropped my resting rate from 60 to 50 which left me incapable of doing basically anything. Increased the amount of missed beats I felt and gave me anxiety and a shakiness I have never experienced before. Probably the worst drug I have ever taken and all this on 1.25mg a day! M 65 1 months

1  Blood pressure and high pulse rate I have had weakness in my arms and legs. Anxiety. Thinking is foggy/slow. Rash on mid chest. Sleep issues. Pain in my hips. Fatigue. I ended up in the hospital last year with extreme weakness in my arms and legs. At first it was thought to be neurological. It scared the he'll out me, but nothing came back. Then they thought it was Lyme disease, but I was cleared of that. Now I'm being sent to another specialist. I have spent a lot of time and money over the last 8 months trying to figure out what is wrong with me. I believe it to be the med, but am not sure. I am weaning myself off of it now. It is very effective at lowering my heart rate and blood pressure, but I think this has been the issue the whole time. I am just hoping the side effects are not permanent. Looking back I've had issues since I started taking it and not one doctor has suggested it maybe the med. I have had MRI's of my brain and spine. Been through stress test and even had a spinal tap.  1  Tachycardia & high heart rate Fluid retention, Weight gain, Swelling hands & feet, Urinary incontinence, Fatigue, Difficulty breathing, Joint pain, Strange head feeling, Headaches, Constipation, Aching chest pains, Occasional stabbing pain, Occasional heart skipping beats. My heart doctor prescribed 5 mg/day for Tachycardia at first. Once I began having stabbing chest pains at extreme exertion followed by extreme fatigue & weakness, my doctor did a heart cath and determined my heart was very healthy but was beating at nearly 100 bpm at rest! Therefore, he increased my dosage to 10 mg/day & I could barely walk or make it through a work day (even at a desk). He dropped me back to 5 mg. Now, after 2 more months on 5 mg, I have experienced more side effects than I have ever thought possible and am larger than I have been in my entire life. I also have fibromyalgia, which has gotten tremendously worse while being on bystolic. I'm not sure the long term effects of this medicine but I'm not staying on it to find out. F 39 4 months

1  Heart failure, arrythmias Sore back and neck muscles, tinnitus, left knee and hip pain, itchy skin, prolonged headaches daily, dry mouth, difficulty sleeping, tiredness, feeling of dizziness/ lightheadedness/ vertigo, light sensitivity( I need to wear sunglasses at times), head fog and weight gain!!!! Do not let your doctors tell you that you are imagining things or that your beta blocker has nothing to do with how bad they are making you feel. Do your research and have your evidence ready. Doctors sit there in their Ivory Tower and do not really know what these drugs ACTUALLY do to people. They need to listen more and not be led by big Pharma. I have nothing against doctors. They mainly do a great job under difficult conditions but something must be done to help people who are suffering from being prescribed beta blockers!! F 60 8 months

1  High blood pressure At first I had no side effects from the medication. After 6 weeks I began to experience eye twitching, memory loss , shortness of breath , numbness in left arm and chest pain. I stopped the med for several days then went back on a smaller dose. While off the med I felt better physically but bp started to climb. I went back on Bystolic and everything started all over again after one week. F 48 2 months

1  High Blood Pressure, Fast Heartbeat Depression, Major Anxiety, Sleeplessness (waking up shocked & terrified), Burning Sensation in Chest, Crying for no Reason, Fatigue, Cannot think Clearly I am going to call my doctor tomorrow to see if I can stop taking this drug. I'm terrified to fall asleep and if I do fall asleep I violently wake up within 20-30 minutes in shock. They put me on it to lower my BP while I wait to verify I have Hyperthyroidism. I am unsure if it lowers my BP as I have not been on it for long, but it does slow my heart rate. It makes me feel awful though and it feels like something is just not right. F 26 1 days

1  Pre-hypertension 135/90 Shoulder pains, extreme tiredness, abdominal pains close to ribs on right and left, chest pains, hard to breathe, wrist pains, anxiety, weight gain. My blood pressure always ran slightly high and I certainly have white-coat syndrome. I was prescribed Bystolic 5mg which did not affect my BP, so was increased to 10mg where I remained for nearly a year. I felt detached from reality and walked around in a constant daze even though taking my dosage at night. Only a hour after being awake, I would fight to keep my eyes open. My sleep was not affected by this drug. My blood pressure pleased the doc, but the side effects where too much to handle. I told my doc I was weaning off, so he gave me a week's supply of 5mg samples and told me to monitor my BP. After the week of 5mg, I would be off the drug. That was 8 days ago and I have started feeling a bit like my old self again. I still have periods of anxiety, but not constant like when taking the meds. Looking forward to the rest of the symptoms to go away completely as it seems they tend to come on for a short period and then go away. No longer feeling like a zombie or a prisoner to this drug. For the past eight days of being off this medication, my BP has consistently averaged 123/78 with HR 72. I am starting on an exercise regimen since I no longer feel like I am fighting to breathe. While on Bystolic my weight shot up from 195 to 235. This med was not for me and I urge you to have a lengthy conversation with your medical care professional before starting down the Bystolic road...it was a long road for me. M 46 1 years

1  HTN, a-fib apathy, decreased kidney function, leg edema, insomnia, weight gain, cold feet and legs and hands, inability to function at ANYTHING memory problems Bystolic not only decreases the ability of my heart to function, it also decreases blood circulation to my kidneys AND brain. Until this beast entered into my life, I rode my horse, did my own home remodeling and basically enjoyed living. I was amazingly stupid to allow this poison into my body. This is not living, this is sitting in a chair waiting to die. F 66 13 months
