I didn't think of the drug correlating with his symptoms until now, when I went over the dates. My side effects were a worsening of my asthma. I was taking it for my allergies, but my asthma had died down to where I had even let my inhalor expire; I never needed it anymore. Soon after being on Singulair I began having asthma attacks again. Lately it seems I'm using my new inhalor every other day. Also, I have noticed a change in my general feeling of wellbeing--I have anxiety and fits of depression that are unusual for me. I am taking both myself and my son off this drug, and hopefully our symptoms will go away. When I took Singulair, my allergy symptoms completely went away. I also have a five year old son who takes it in the spring and summer for allergies. We had tried everything and nothing would help. Again, Singulair really worked with no apparent side effects. I'm active in cycling and running and have always been hypersensitive to colder weather and get SOB/tightness in chest when exercising for long periods. After watching a news clip on the condition I did some research and decided to make an appointment. This is the first time I've been in a doctor's office in years and I felt great going in, just wanted to see if I could improve my riding and extend my season by getting treatment. They determined I did have EIB and rhinitis which he said could contribute to the problem (I haven't noticed any symptoms though). He gave me Proventil for immediately before strenuous exercise and Singulair to take every evening for the rhinitis. That night I took the Singulair and slept normal. The next morning I overslept and did not want to get up. This is not like me. My head was stopped up and my throat dry. I became so irritable & had zero patience with my children. I had big mood swings, increased anxiety, i developed a loss of interest in things, felt fatigued all the time & I began to have feelings of hopelessness. It is not a constant thing, it would come & go to where I would feel crazy at times. About 2 weeks ago I began to notice these symptoms getting worse especially the hopelessness feeling, as if I were spiraling downward. After a huge meltdown, I asked God to help me & this medicine popped in my head. I decided to google the symptoms however I didn't want a generic list of symptoms, i wanted peoples experiences & i eventually found this site. As I read the posts on here about this med, I immediately recognized that it was this medicine that was doing this to me! I cannot believe something like this is on the market & for children even! It is an extremely dangerous drug in my experience because some list suicidal thoughts as one of their symptoms & even though it didn't get to that point for me, after experiencing the slow onset of my symptoms I can see how this drug could possibly slowly lead someone to suicide! Thats nuts! On the third day of taking this drug, he became an emotional wreck. He was so hyper, seemed out of control of his body - literally bouncing off the walls. Grandparents and friends even noticed the change. He became extremely frustrated because he could not concentrate on any task, game, etc. Very unlike him. THEN he started talking about wanting to kill people, and himself. I was beyond shocked and scared. At first, I didn't even think of contributing it to Singulair, until I started researching side effects. I was outraged. I took him off of it immediately and he was back to himself within 24-48 hours. A week after this experience, I received some health alert email about the psychotic reaction dangers of singulair to children. It is terrible to think of a "simple" allergy med causing such a scary and life-threatening reaction.
