| 1 | Early stage breast cancer | Very Severe, multiple, debilitating and long term ill effects not recognised by my medical team and still repeating after 9yrs Accumulating almost every side effect on the Patient Unformation Leaflet I was a person with no underlying health issues. Stopped Anastrozole after 2 yrs 2 months due to extra sensitivity to interchanges of generic brands of Anastrozle. Told by my Breast Care Nurse that I may never be the same again. Thought to be psychological. I addressed that much to the astonishment of my Consultant. It was not psychological. | The interchange of generic brands of Anastrozole caused overdosing several days after new brand. Each change upped the intensity of ill effects and added further Ill effects due to the differences of the half life of the Active Ingredient. After stopping problems withdrew for the same period of time that I was on Anastrozole and some were worse creating more difficulties. To cut a long story short - the mix of Anaesthetic, Radiotherapy, Omeprazole for Hiatus Hernia together with Anastrozole at the start of my treatment has caused havoc to my nervous system, my muscles, connective tissue, skin rash, blisters and sores, bladder and bowel incontinence, falls, fractures, difficulty walking, unable to do my household duties, mouth peripheral neuropathy, tooth problems and now a suspicion of Glaucoma. I have also had surgery for a hip replacement and endometrial cancer. More Anaesthetic, more Radiation, more Morphine reviving the ill effects established by Anastrozole. Plus for several months - Ranitadine. She took me off it for a two week trial and I felt better in two days. I have not taken it for the past 6 weeks. I met with my oncologist and told her the horrific cardiac (and gastro) side effects I was experiencing- she said because my EKG was fine I was probably having a panic attack! Really. A panic attack for FIVE DAYS, all day long, where I felt like at any moment I was going to have a heart attack???? NOT a panic attack. A doctor's answer to anything they don't know - panic attacks. Wheezing, congestion, chest pressure and terrible gastro problems. She suggested Tamoxifen as a replacement for Arimidex and I refused. Gave me a prescription for Letrazole (which I have not taken yet) because being that it is a "sister" drug of Arimidex I assume it will have the exact same effect on me. The bottle comes with a very length report on the side effects it has given women and they are all bad. I get that HER2 positive breast cancer is estrogen-driven. But giving women a drug that blocks the total estrogen in a person's body doesn't even make sense to me - your heart needs estrogen to be healthy, doesn't it? I've already started taking the arimidex every other day instead of daily and it seems to help some. I can definitely tell a difference on the days I dont take it. I'm not sure if the SE are from the arimidex or the lupron as they are both awful and have very similar SE. I'm so thankful I stumbled upon this site. Had to stop driving and got to the point where I couldn't go to work. I had other symptoms like hot flashes but those I could take. Did 2 1/2 years on tamoxifen which was much easier for me. Still had side effects but I could handle them. Had to stop tamoxifen due to irregular vaginal bleeding. My oncologist didn't feel comfortable having me continue. Can't take Arimidex and function at all. My overall health is good, had blood work, thyroid ultrasound, etc. The side effects I experienced was definitely due to Arimidex. Felt great before taking this drug and started to feel better a week after stopping Arimidex | I am just postmenopausal so perhaps this is why the side effects were so severe. | F | 53 | 30 days 10mg 1X day | 6/12/2015 | 1 | Breast Cancer | I have just had a lumpectomy and now my doctor wants me to take Arimidex.
