Shots with my allergens in them and...ZYRTEC!!! Of course it worked like a charm but I noticed weight gain and it wasn't until now that I realized zyrtec was the problem. I've always been skinny and, let me tell you, I gained 20 pounds in 7 months. I refuse to take this junk. Now I have to work off 20 pounds. G I'd rather stay inside all day next to my air cleaner than take zyrtec and gain MORE weight. However, the side effects that I experienced to this drug are simply not worth taking it. The most significant of these side effects would be fatigue. Since I've been taking cetirizine hcl (zyrtec generic), I have been able to sleep for hours and always wake up more tired than before. Throughout the day I constantly feel weak, unmotivated, and emotionally distraught causing me to have difficulty concentrating and doing well in school. I'm going to try switching to another antihistamine because I want to be able to enjoy life again. Felt no different than taking Benadryl. Then, I made the mistake of taking one before bed. I also took this dose two hours before the last dosage was supposed to wear off, accidentally, since I was immediately going to bed. About an hour after taking the second dose, I started having chills and shakes. I couldn't get to sleep, either. Whenever I did doze off, I immediately went into strange, graphic dreams. Not nightmares, but just straight-up disturbing strangeness. When my alarm clock went off, I woke up to my heart racing. I even had mild chest pain and dizziness I was terrified that I was having a heart attack. Fortunately, the pain and palpitations faded within an hour. For the rest of the day, I was tired and depressed. | I would much rather take Benadryl than take this, since I know it's at least a bit safer.
