Like her, I mistook the side effects of Claritin as sxs of allergies - the season has been longer, more intense this year. I see now, the nights after taking the most Claritin during the day (fighting its side effects with more of it!), I had the most awful sxs of scalding eyes, stomachaches, hot flashes. Bad dermatitis that even cracked and bled after I began Claritin. I took NONE at all ystrday & drowsed thru the day with benadryl - and slept WELL. For the first time in weeks, I woke NOT feeling lik | As has been said, suffering the allergies (or the drowsiness of benadryl) is better than the scary miseries of Claritin for me. I feel so foolish now for having treated its side effects (thinking they were the allergies) by taking more and more of it (going from 10mg to 20mg, and finally 30mg a day). After taking for a few days, bloating of face and abdomen, gas. | I first tried Claritin-D several years ago but stopped due to feeling foggy. I tried it again as an OTC beginning in October 2007 and after a week or so noticed I felt "puffy." I didn't seem to put on pounds but my clothes were definitly tighter and my face noticably bloated. I switched to Zyrtec this week (Feb 2008) and my face and abdomin went back to normal within about 48 hours. The change was drastic enough that my friends,family, and co-workers noticed a difference immediately. Although Claritin-D did decrease my allergy symptoms, the effectiveness was not worth the side effects. I am also concerned about the long term effects on my heart of a daily dose of 240mg of Pseudoephedrine sulfate. She has also been experiencing emotional outbursts, meltdowns, irritability, forgetfulness, etc. that we originally likened to an age/stage; however, this past weekend when we forgot to give her the loratidine for an extended 3 day weekend ALL of these symptoms disappeared! | The fact that these symptoms/side effects were not disclosed is VERY concerning! A head's up would have been preferred so that when the first symptoms/side effects started happening we could have stopped the loratidine and saved my daughter a lot of embarrassment and hardship!
