| 1 | anxiety and depression | drowsiness, lightheadedness, slight confusion | i think this drug actually made me more anxious. i would not recommend it for anyone with my particular brain chemistry because it seemed to make me super anxious and irritable and i mean big time. i hear most people think it doesn't do much anyway but it's the only thing their doctor will prescribe because benzodiazepines (which i hear actually work) are extremely addictive and subject to abuse. | M | 38 | 30 days | 3/23/2006 | 1 | REM Sleep Behavior Disorder | .25mg cured the vilont sleep movement after a week. This dose made me tired all day and lack of alertness. It also caused vivid dreams that woke me every morning at 4:30. I could not go back to sleep. I was taking 15mg in the morning and 15mg in the evening. I would get a buzzing sensation in my head for about 15 minutes after taking Buspar. This went away after about 3 weeks and it did seem to help the tension I was feeling from anxiety. After about 3 to 4 weeks my anxiety actually increased, my mind was racing most of the time and I had insomnia 2 to 3 times a week. These symptoms increased until I finally had to get off Buspar. After the initial 'loading' phase of about 2 weeks, I started experiencing partial total body numbness/altered sense of touch. Not just extremeties, even my torso! I would touch wood and it would feel like fur, etc. I would sit in a chair and not feel it. Rubbing my legs together felt like someone else touching me, etc. Feelings like that....hard to put into words. | I've heard stories about sensory altering recreational drugs (Ecstacy, etc) and honestly if I wasn't experiencing grave anxiety all of this would have been fun. But I needed a cure for anxiety so this only increased the panic... Of course my MD thought I was making up side effects to return to Ativan and recommended I ignore effects and continue. Needless to say I discontinued use, I'd gladly have anxiety if it means a proper sense of touch! If this drug works for you, great! But buyer beware, its a fairly new class of drugs and not enough research/awareness to side effects in my opinion have circulated amongst the MDs to make it feel safe. | M | 25 | 3 weeks | 10/22/2006 | 1 | anxiety | dizziness, unreality, dissociation, INCREASE in depression, and extreme sedation | This happened to me at a low dose 5mg. I am in general extremely sensitive to most medications, but I was surprised at the increase in my depression and the dissociative feelings (feeling disconnected from my body). My doctor had prescribed a much higher dosage to start, so I am very glad I was cautious. It was frightening. I called my psychiatrist and he said discontinue immediately and to take lorazapam until buspar was out of my system. By the next day 80% of symptoms were gone. Awoke with panic attacks 3 times in one night. Also felt stange muscle pain in calf, felt like dead muscle. The very very sad fact is that a patient with GAD is left with 3 choices as I see it, suffering, benzos (which are addictive, but work) or the SSR's which have horrible side effects Pick your poison and hope science can come up with something better soon! | M | 55 | 2 days | 7/15/2006 | 1 | panic attacks | nervousness, odd chest sensation that I hesitate to classify as pain, 20 minutes of ecstacy followed by feeling like I was on speed. It is day 5 and I am never taking it again though. I just got back from the emergency room. My blood pressure was 102/54, and I felt like I was gonna pass out, at the ER I was 160/77. The first three days were extremely fun with this drug- like something illicit. Yesterday was touch and go. Today I ended up in the ER. Who paid off the FDA to put this garbage on the market? Never again.
