PROLIA  (DENOSUMAB):  Denosumab is used to treat bone loss (osteoporosis) in women who are at high risk for bone fracture after menopause. It is also used to treat bone loss in men who are at high risk for bone fracture. Osteoporosis causes bones to become thinner and break more easily. Your chance of developing osteoporosis increases after menopause (in women), as you age, if someone in your family has osteoporosis, or if you take corticosteroid medications (such as prednisone) for long periods. Denosumab is also used to treat bone loss in women who are at high risk for bone fracture while receiving certain treatments for breast cancer. Denosumab is also used to treat bone loss in men who are at high risk of bone fracture while receiving certain treatments for prostate cancer that has not spread to other parts of the body. This medication works by slowing bone loss to help maintain strong bones and reduce the risk of broken bones (fractures). Denosumab belongs to a class of drugs called monoclonal antibodies. It prevents certain cells in the body (osteoclasts) from breaking down bone.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Osteoporosis Generalized aches, moderate to severe shoulder, hip, back pain. Initial dose of Prolia in May 2016. Second dose in December 2016. No side effects with first two injections. Third injection on June 9th, 2017. Ten days later experienced severe pain of shoulder which has spread to my hip and back. Also experiencing flu-like symptoms. It's now five weeks later and these symptoms persist. It gets more and more difficult to get out of bed. My doctors have no advice on what to expect or how to treat my symptoms except to use over-the-counter painkillers as needed. Will continue to take Calcium, Vit. D, and hope for the best. Nothing else to do since the drug will remain in my body for at least another 5 months. F 73 18 months

1  Osteoporosis I have osteopenia and suffered a stress fracture in my right heel. My doctors wanted me to start prolia. Unable to take pills due to gastric bypass. 1st shot no side effects. 2nd left groin pain but went away. 3rd shot severe right side groin, thigh, hip and back pain. Dictors did not believe it was the prolia. I waited 9 months fir the 4th shot because I was found to have lumbar disc disease pressing on a nerve. Doctors talked me into it and within 3 days my pain is worse then ever. I am beside myself. F 55 4 times

1  osteoporosis -3.7 Severe hip and leg pains Had no side effects after first shot, but within hours after the second shot had mild flu-like symptoms, which cleared up after a few days. A few weeks after the second shot, I began to have left hip pain, no mobility in that hip. Thinking it was something I had done in the gym with my trainer, we limited our workout. Pain did not improve. Then the right hip began to act up, too. Now, about two months after the second injection, I can barely walk. Pain is so severe at night that I can't sleep. I've been on osteoporosis drugs for for nearly twenty years (including Forteo, which gave me leg pains, but nothing like what I am experiencing now). I'm ready to give up. One thing is certain: I will never take this drug again. F 72 9 months

1  Osteoporosis Flu like symptoms....nausea, GI problems...exhaustion. Took shot on March 15th and was violently sick the following Saturday....vomiting and wretching.....haven't been well since. Went to my primary and he suggested I see a GI doctor. I asked him if he thought it was prolia but he didn't know about the drug. After reading all these reviews, I am convinced it was the shot. I was perfectly fine before March 15th. Would not recommend. Will not take a second shot. I am concerned about the length of time it will take my body to rid itself of this drug. I missed a week of work already. F 71

1  Osteoporosis Immediately flu like symptoms. Total exhaustion. Horrible sores inside my mouth. Upset stomach. Achy all over. Skin issues. Deep bronchial like coughs with yellow spectrum. Infected runny nose. Mental cloudiness. Restless leg at night. Very low energy. Prolia: 2-17-2017: 1st Prolia shot. Next day got severe flu 😷 symptoms that lasted a hard 3 weeks. Lost weight, 6 pounds! I went to my GP's nurse, who said that it was definitely NOT Prolia because my symptoms were wrong, and she put me on HEAVY antibiotics. By the fourth week of my flu like symptoms I thought that I was getting better; but not completely, I still feel to this day very achy and exhausted; and over two months after getting the first shot. I have not had one healthy day yet. 3-29-2017: Asked my spine doctor, who is recommending surgery on my lower lumbard L3, L4, and L5, about Prolia because of its negative effect on me. Would Prolia effect the operation negatively? "No". He said, "and to stay on it because it is good for the spine". 4-2-2017: More and more blisters and canker sores are starting to grow inside my mouth making eating difficult. Now I am rinsing mouth out with salt water. Also, I have an infected running left nostril. I am very very tired. Rough skin spots on chest, arms, forehead. I am coughing a lot, and twice in the past week I coughed up yellow globs. Some stomach issues too. I am sure that all of the above are a reaction to my Prolia shot on February 17, 2017. I am just 2 months into this resulting brain-fog. 4 more months to go. Two doctors and a nurse love Prolia, BUT I HATE IT! Never again. F 70 46 days

1  Osteoporotic fractures of vertebrae Excruciating spasms, bone and joint pain, esp. shoulders, neck, jaw, thighs. Cough, 10 pound( thus far) weight gain, loss of appetite , constipation I resisted taking anti Osteoporosis drugs, but when I developed fractures, I felt I had no choice. Now I regret it. Having had a congenital leg length difference I thought I knew pain. After having limb lengthening surgery, which was HELL my pain pretty much resolved. This pain is worse then I ever experienced. After all I went through, to be going through this is discouraging. F 69 9 times

1  Ostopina Just had my 4th shot, 1 every 6 months. My oncologist down played the side effects. I have an infected tooth and my oncologist said the side of effect of ONJ, the bone comimg out of the jaw so that it is exposed, is too high of a risk to get the tooth removed. This drug makes it so the bones in your jaws dissenergrate and the gum doesn't heal and the bone in your will become visible and infected. (Google it). The doctors must be getting a kick back from Amgen when they prescribe it. At first I did fine now I don't want to walk, play tennis or do fun things with my kids because I feel like I have the flu and my right arm hurts. When I wake up in the morning my teeth feel akward. Two years ago I read the side effects in the literature from Amgen and ONJ -jaw rot was a rare side effect now Amgen says it is a common side effect. Stay away from this drug...after 2 years you will be lethargic, 15 pounds heavier, your teeth will feel loose, your skin will be flaky, your bones will ache. I take the calcium supplements with vit D too. Don't let Amgen say your are having these side effects because you're not taking calcium. Finds other ways to get your bones strong. Amgen just wants money..this drug is very expensive. The side effect of ONJ is horrible! Shame on Amgen for creating this drug and the doctors for prescribing it. I hope the CFO and the President of Amgen along with my oncologist get ONJ l and wake up every day feeling like their teeth are going to fall out. F 52 2 years

1  Osteoporosis My doc had someone call from his office to try to get me to take prolia. I declined. I believe they are getting kickbacks for recommending this dangerous drug. It's only supposed to be used for people with bone cancer. Thank you ladies for all of your reviews- you have confirmed my fears and suspicions regarding prolia and the other bone density drugs. They're all dangerous, have terrible side effects and they don't prevent fractures. Some seem to cause them. No discussion of what factors are causing my early osteoporosis or alternative safe treatments such as diet, supplementation, weight bearing exercise and in my case more testing and starting hrt again. I'm also eating 100g of prunes per day- read the study: the women who ate prunes had increased bone density with no suppression of the bone making process. Supplement vitamin k2 with vitamin D3- k2 makes sure calcium is absorbed into the bones. Get your calcium from food not supplements. Supplement minerals- you need 1part magnesium for 2 parts calcium. Go online and read about alternative treatments for this. Doctors should be ashamed to be poisoning patients with prolia and these other drugs. I won't be taking it. F 54 1 days
