| 2 | Bipolar Disorder | I took Depakote 10 years ago and it didn't seem to do much except put 45 pounds on me, which I lost when I stopped the drug. Had to start it up again a year ago and stayed on 500mg. a day with only a 10 pound weight-gain. Had to titrate up quickly to 2250mg. 2 months ago as I became very manic this spring and I am unhappy. I don't think it is doing much (I believe my seroquel is doing more to control the mania) and the food cravings are horrible. I've never had anything affect me like this. I will eat until I am sick, and keep eating until I nearly vomit. There is no control (and mind you, I am a healthy eater who watches my weight and is good about exercise.) I have watched my weight shoot up 20 pounds in two months due to junk food cravings that I have no control over (I will drive to go get junk food it's so bad.) This is unacceptable as I also have genetic high cholesterol issues.
