SIMVASTATIN  (SIMVASTATIN):  Simvastatin is used along with a proper diet to help lower "bad" cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It belongs to a group of drugs known as "statins." It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. Lowering "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides and raising "good" cholesterol decreases the risk of heart disease and helps prevent strokes and heart attacks. In addition to eating a proper diet (such as a low-cholesterol/low-fat diet), other lifestyle changes that may help this medication work better include exercising, losing weight if overweight, and stopping smoking. Consult your doctor for more details.   FDA Approval Date: 2011-09-16 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  High cholesterol Vertigo, felt really foggy and have a hard time concentrating. Muscle aches. Swelling in legs and feet that's becoming painful. Nausea, stomach pain, constipation and diarrhea. You feel horrible like a poison or something is flowing through you. Two days ago I halfed the dose and called my doctor. They don't want me to stop and tried to put me on vertigo meds but I had already tried those. Said I probably have the flu. It's been three months. It's not the flu. They made me an appt. However when I got up the following day I felt 60% better than I had in months. Swelling had gone down to almost nothing. Vertigo only came in small spells. I think it's definitely in my best interest and best for my health to stop this medication immediately. F 43 3 months

3  High cholesterol Some muscle pain in my back It hasn’t worked as well as I had hoped. My recent LDL and triglyceride numbers are higher than I expected to see, but my primary care physician doesn’t seem concerned. I have a physical set up for mid April and I’ll talk with her then about a possible change in the dosage then. F 65 5 years

1  Cholesterol Muscle and joint pain, General body weakness, difficulty sleeping, memory loss, confusion, loss of energy The symptoms came on slowly so that I didn't realize the medication was causing all my problems. I forgot to renew the prescription one month and after about 3-4 months, I was back to my normal self. After thinking about any changes that might have gotten me back to normal, the only change was stopping the statin. I went back to taking the statin as a test, and within a few weeks the symptoms were returning. I stopped again and refuse to take them ever again. They made my life a misery for years. F 59 3 years

1  I'm over 40 and diabetic Extremely elevated back and leg pains which led to lack of sleep. Anxiety and panic attacks which lead to nausea and diarrhea. Depression, feeling anti-social and I cried all the time. I dealt with these side effects, which began mildly increasing in intensity, for 6-8 months but never once thought it was caused from the pill. I ran across an article then kept digging. I quit taking it a few days ago and within 24 hours I felt like my old self. It did lower my cholesterol to great numbers, but not worth the anguish it caused. I'll take my chances without it.  3  heart desease although my colesterol numbers are all good now i cant say that it is because of simvastatin. I also changed my diet, no red meat or fried foods, mainly no fast food. I eat chicken, turkey and tuna, and fruits and salads. I am stopping simvastatin today because of the side effects I've feeling. Mucscle pain and the real reason is that I feel like I have poison running through my body, arms and legs,I think most people describe it as tingling. I also feel my heart miss a beat sometimes. I will update at a later date to let evertbody how it works out. I think this is a bad drug for people. Also I haven't had a good night sleep during this time. M 53 10 months
