| 2 | Retained products of conception | Headaches, nausea, leg cramps and stiffness, diarrhea | Took methergine orally for two days to help pass retained products of conception and bleeding 8 weeks postpartum. I did not pass anything or have notable uterine cramps. I had pretty severe upper leg and hip pain and stiffness, plus intense headaches. I am still bleeding and assume I will need a d&c. METHERGINE (METHYLERGONOVINE MALEATE): This medication is used after childbirth to help stop bleeding from the uterus. Methylergonovine belongs to a class of drugs known as ergot alkaloids.
