BYSTOLIC  (NEBIVOLOL HYDROCHLORIDE):  Nebivolol is used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as beta blockers. It works by blocking the action of certain natural substances in your body, such as epinephrine, on the heart and blood vessels. This effect lowers heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart.   FDA Approval Date: 2008-10-08 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  High blood pressure History 30-40 yrs of high blood pressure resolved over 5yr period and reduced resting heart rate to roughly 50bpm. But suddenly I developed extreme fatigue to the point where I have trouble walking or standing for even 5-10 min. Don't know if it's a sudden reaction to Bystolic or something else but must stop it to see. It's been great til now so don't want knock it, especially if it's not the cause. I tried 4 or 5 diff bp pills and byst was the only one to work for me. Seems like mostly women (look above) have bad reactions to it M 76 5 years

1  High Blood Pressure Was only on this for 3 days. I felt symptoms on 2nd day. Insomnia, slow heart rate, increased anxiety, lightheadedness and chest pains. I was taking prednisone while being on this pill. I informed the heart doctor before he gave it to me. He did not say it would interfere. Anyways I took myself off it. I left 3 messages with him. Waiting to hear back to see what l is next. M 48 3 days

1  Rapid heartrate, high BP I already suffer from depression, and this medication increased the severity of my depression to the point of my becoming suicidal. I nearly ran my car off the road into a ditch because I was crying so hard. Also, this drug causes me to feel as if I'm "dragging"-everything takes twice as much effort to do, and it was nearly impossible to work my physically demanding job while on this drug. Not safe for those of us prone to depression. F 44 2 months

3  Bp Good at first. Controlled my bp but I started having terrible back and hip pain that radiates up my side. I am still taking and I now have blurry vision at times and my finger tips go numb. My doctor looked at me like I was crazy when I told her. She wants me to continue because we’ve tried all the other type bp meds and I’ve had problems with all of them. I’m ready to stop taking this stuff to see if these symptoms go away so I’m trying to lose some weight since I know I’ve tried so many different ones. I don’t want to take any more F 64 1 years

1  Tachycardia even after ablation You CAN go off immediately. My doctor told me to just stop Bystolic (after four years) so I did. No side effects for about four days, then got a skull-buster headache that felt like a yamulka that was way too tight just off center of the top of my head. It felt like tendons that ran down to my neck and beyond were involved. Couldn't bend my head forward without terrible pain. Trying not to take anything, I suffered through until I took two Tylenol, which wiped the headache out. Next day, back but again Tylenol kicked it. Today, I feel like a million bucks, which is about 10 days "clean." There IS life after Bystolic... F 64 4 years

1  Tachycardia even after ablation So many to describe/so little space! My recount of my experience on Bystolic is directly below this add-on. When I presented with such low blood pressure, my doctor had me stop Bystolic immediately--no wean-off necessary. After suffering for so long, it was only when my BP couldn't sustain me that I started reading up on its other side effects--which fit mine like a glove. Now that I've found this site, I scrolled through the other reviews, shocked to see 1 after 1 after 1! Dating back over a decade, I wonder how many of those "5" ratings stood the test of time. I want to report I am just a couple days "clean" and most of the side effects were gone quickly. The tinnitus is getting there. The leg and foot cramps are GONE! When they'd strike, I am surprised I didn't have a heart attack. I'd be paralyzed and soaked with sweat. No longer afraid to leave the house. Call your prescribing physician and kick Bystolic today.  1  Tachycardia even after ablation Didn't realize Bystolic was even causing these side effects I am 64 but felt like I am 84. Light-headed, no energy since last winter. Thought symptoms were due to EffexorXR, which I don't want to quit. I am retired so I could often crawl back into bed as needed. Had shortness of breath. I developed tinnitus and could feel and hear the beating of my heart in my head all the time. Exposure to heat would soak me. Night was worse. Had leg and foot cramps, so painful, they could knock me out of bed. Fingers felt magnetic to each other, remaining in crazy positions. Drank gallons of water, took magnesium and potassium--no difference. I did research on MS, MD, ALS, Lymes--could have been anything. I can't say I was suicidal, but life had become a chore. My husband pointed out not going and doing was the problem. Unable to continue a volunteer gig, I made an appointment with my doctor. BP read 82/62 with pulse 99. She said this would be why I felt to puny. She took me off Bystolic. I am now one and a half days clean! Restful slept all night for the first time in ages. No sweat! No cramps. Ear ringing is nearly gone and my heartbeat isn't jarring me day and night. Not even tempted to crawl back in bed. BP is normal. No pain anywhere. I don't even feel like me! It doesn't seem possible 5 mg of one medication could be so detrimental. I still have an electrical problem--Even on Bystolic, I was "tachy." I don't know what changed since my ablation that I would feel so wretched--other than getting older. This has been a real eye opener... F 64 4 years

1  BP issues I feel like death is knocking at my door! After 1 week had major panic attack. Hand cramps, hip pain, Jae pain, anxiety, nervousness, nausea, sleepy, hot/cold, pain behind ears, foggy, black spots in vision, blurry vision, massive headaches, lower legs feel like a rubber band around them. Massive weight gain in just 12 days. Waiting for call back from doctor! I cannot live like this. I’m also taking another BP med and he added this Beta blocker F 56 12 days

2  Hypertension Extreme fatigue and sleepiness. I would take a 2 - 3 hour nap and still sleep 8 hours or more at night. I would have things planned to do during the day, and would suddenly fall asleep while sitting in a chair. I would often have to lie down and sleep for a few hours. I'm going back to Amlodipine and larsartan. They both worked fine for me, but my doctor thought this beta blocker would also help my chronic migraines without causing erectile dysfunction.  2  Hypertension Was on 2.5 at night for a year. Weight gain, insomnia, brain fog, and after a while, stopped lowering blood pressure. Doctor put me on 5 mg and increased side effects: GERD, memory loss, insomnia, nightmares, depression/lack of interest, and itching. Blood pressure is lower, though. F 60 2 years
