I have severe asthma, have been to the ER more times than I can count, have my own home nebulizer, and was so scared about having an asthma attack I carried an albuterol inhaler with me at all times, even took one to bed with me. Since starting advair, half the time I do not even feel the need to carry my inhaler with me. Advair has freed me from my constant coughing and wheezing. I can now sleep through the night without waking up unable to breath, and that has been such a relief. At the same time, I often wonder at what price this 'wonder drug' comes. It is an inhaled steroid, which can cause problems in the system over time. Plus, if I skip a dose, my asthma acts up right away - sometimes worse than it ever was prior to my starting on advair. And I am starting to have problems with my teeth - my gumline is receding and gums bleed a lot during brushing and dental cleanings.
