| 2 | Fungal infection | Dry lips (feels shriveled n starting to get painful and chapped), dry mouth, dehydrated, nausea occasionally. It's been just over 2wks since I started taking this and I am having increasingly dry lips, no amount of lip balm will help them. I took one pill for my YI and I developed a blister under my bottom lip, a cold sore like blister in the corner of my mouth. Blisters inside my bottom and top lips, a blister between my back gum and tongue and a very bad sore throat. I am in so much pain its rediculous. I can't eat anything.... I can barely swallow - just a little water to stay hydrated. I'll never take anything oral for my YI again. The creams are messy and takes a week but at least I don't get this reaction. | F | 46 | 1 days 150 mg 1X day | 2/22/2021 | 1 | Candida Glabrata | Muscle and joint pain, muscle twitching, vaginal swelling (worse than infection swelling), vaginal burning and intense cramps, vaginal dryness, intense stomach cramps, constipation, gas, bloating, stomach gurgling, no appetite, nausea, dry heaving, low heart rate, palpitations, chest pain, brain fog, dry mouth and dry lips, dry itchy eyes, headache, dizziness (almost like low blood sugar) sleepiness, intense anxiety and panic attacks, insomnia (bad enough i wouldn't sleep), inflammation, and feeling warmer than usual, but no fever. There are some of these that are still ongoing. | My story about this is pretty similar to most women who took this for the purpose of a yeast infection. I have a certain type called candida glabrata that is actually resistant to this medication. I knew this before hand, but went along with what my doctor told me to do, thinking she knew what she was doing. I have done extensive research on vaginal candida glabrata and found that flucytosine and boric acid are the only things that work. Anyways, I took the first 200mg dose and that night I started to cramp up horribly bad. The second day I took the 800mg and that night the cramps were unbearably bad. I started to feel like crap pretty quickly and knew it was the medicine. The next day I took my 800mg dose again and developed intense swelling and pain in my vagina, while the other symptoms started to occur. My doctor told me to take this for 7 days. I only made it 4 days and went to the ER due to the side effects and the infection. I was prescribed the flucytosine as a compound cream and bought some boric acid. The side effects are still bothering me some what, but they are slowly getting better. It has been 4 days since my last dose and I still have some problems. I am never going to take this medication again because monistat can work for a regular yeast infection, and so can boric acid vaginal suppositories. Be very careful if you plan on taking this medication for a yeast infection because it is extremely dangerous in my opinion, but everyone reacts different. | F | 28 | 4 days 800mg 1X day | 2/3/2021 | 3 | Fungal infection | I was prescribed Diflucan for fungal infection in bikini area. 1 pill (150 mg) then another 2 days later. I was ok until 2 days after second dose. I now have bad abdominal pain that comes and goes, gas pain and chills (no fever). Fungal infection no longer burns or itches, but stomach pain is awful. If I eat or drink anything, I start cramping. Not worth it! I haven't slept in two days due to stomach pain! | Although I think it's helping the fungal infection, I wouldn't ever take this medication again. I will just see if just a cream works. Eye is painful and itchy. Lid is completely swollen. | For a lot of American women on birth control for years, I wonder if being prescribed this 1-2 times per year for 20 years has been too much. I never had allergic hives until after taking this for 14 years. We need a safer alternative, as I don't find monistat to be helpful anymore, or Yeast Arrest. And I take the pill for endometriosis repression. Fast forward to this year. I had a major yeast infection, took Diflucan but this time had multiple weird side effects, including: peeling/swollen lips (with ulcers on the inside), nausea/vomiting, terrible stomach pains and diarrhea, heart palpitations, itchy throat and increased vaginal and anal irritation. I even developed hemorrhoids for the first time in my life, and I attribute it all to this drug. I think it severely irritated my mucous membranes and then this was only worsened by coupled chronic diarrhea I was having. Be really careful taking this drug..it's no joke. | It's been 2 months since taking Diflucan and I am still having irritation down there. I think some of it is probably from the yeast infection itself but I just know that this drug definitely played a part in it. I just went to a vaginal specialist who said I now have contact dermatitis down there. I will never be taking this drug again. I called my PCP and he didn't know what to tell me. Called a specialist and they didn't know what to tell me. I did a ton of research and found TONS of reviews of others who had similar symptoms after taking. Don't know if it was the "herx reaction" or side effects from Diflucan but would have been nice to have been warned of this beforehand either way. The skin issues triggered my anxiety because with no visible signs, I thought I was losing my mind. Woke up with horrible anxiety for about 4 days. Started noticing these side effects 6 days after the 2nd dose. I took the 2nd dose FOURTEEN DAYS AGO and my symptoms are just now SLOWLY SLOWLY SLOWLY getting better. They are just now manageable but still very much present! I started vaginal estrogen tabs 3 mos ago & believe infection a result of that, as I have not been on birth control, or HRT for 20 years, & have never had an infection since. Gonna up my pro-biotic from once a day to 3x for next week, & go back to yogurt poultice! I was prescribed it again and about an hour after I took it my lips became very itchy and red, and even around my nostrils became itchy. I then felt like my blood was boiling in my veins. I was also taking an antibiotic at the same time so I thought it was just a rare fluke. 6 months later I needed to take Diflucan again and the exact same things happened but this time I wasn't taking any other medication so I knew it had to be the Diflucan because I've never experienced them any other time. I didn't want to chance it and take it another time in case the side effects become even worse so I let doctors know I have an allergy to it. They've all seemed a bit shocked that it could cause those side effects. I'm relieved to read other people here have had similar reactions and it wasn't just "all in my head". | It works great for many people but some may have weird side effects that aren't listed even after they've taken this drug without problems in the past. Three months ago I started antibiotics I took the diflucan and I woke up in the morning my lips were swollen around my lips on my skin was splotchy and red then turned to chapped skin and sore. . I went to the doctor and they gave me a steroid shot. I had no idea what had happened because I've taken this medication before with no problems so I figured it was maybe an allergy to the face masks I have to wear due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Fast forward to today and I took the medication again not realizing it was what had caused my issue before. I woke up in the morning same exact spots ,swollen lips twitch tingling and now very chapped on my skin in the same exact spots looks like rug burns for lack of better words. I have no idea if they changed something or what. I was working in a grocery store when I broke out in hives on my face and around my lips, at the time I was trapped behind the register and my lips itched not knowing they were hives i scratched the area around my lips with my teeth. The whole outside of my mouth was dark and covered in scabs, I had hives on my cheeks and forehead even a few on my arms. At the time I thought maybe this was a mix with the antibiotics, fast forward a year later I was in the hospital for super high blood sugar so the doctors prescribed this again while I was on stay, the same exact rash started within hours of taking it. I'm not sure if it's body chemistry or manufacture changed something but I really wouldn't recommend this to anybody. An anti fungal should not have such server symptoms you end up in the hospital for a one day dose.
